Final Fantasy XIII-2: Special Edition Details Revealed

The direct sequel to the
beautiful but somewhat flawed Final
Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2
doesn’t follow in particularly
auspicious footsteps- the only other direct sequel in the Final Fantasy
franchise was Final Fantasy X-2, which
despite being a hardcore Final Fantasy fan, I found pretty bad.  Nevertheless, Square-Enix have revealed some
information about the special editions of the upcoming game, including what
extra goodies will be included with the game itself.

Digital High Episode 13

Vince is back to his usual self with not liking stuff this week. There is also a mention of a rather questionable new feature, but more on that later. In this episode, Donna and Vince cover the week’s news and trailers, the biggest among them perhaps being the lengthy demo for the new Hitman game. Also on this week’s show, Red Dead will not find its way to the PC unfortunately, Batman: Arkham City has some DLC confirmed (because what game doesn’t) and some brief thoughts on the changes coming to Gears 3.

In the form of announcements this week, we will be taking user questions. Yes, that means you! So get in touch either via Twitter, Facebook or just post your question here in the comments. As always, you can catch up on all the episodes on our official podcast page http://playeraffinity.com/podcast.html

Release Screenshots for Arkham City

As if the excitement and buzz for Batman: Arkham City, released yesterday in North America and on
Friday in Europe wasn’t high enough, we’ve a couple of screenshots to coincide
with the game’s release.  Arkham City has been sweeping the board
amongst the critics of the gaming world, and currently holds a breathtaking 95
out of 100 score on Metacritic, based on 37 reviews; keep an eye out for our
review of the game for the full story, but in the meantime (in case you haven’t
yet picked it up), these screenshots should keep your juices flowing.

Halo Anniversary Kinect Controls Detailed

It’s already been announced that the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will feature Kinect controls in some capacity. Well, now we know that not only will you look like a doofus in front of your television, but other people in the room might think you’re talking to yourself (or an advanced AI in your head).

Voice commands dominate the functionality, and will allow you to reload, throw grenades, and switch to the original Xbox graphics. That last one has me dying to know what the voice commands are, but unfortunately we’ll have to wait to find out. You’ll also be able to pull a Metroid: Prime and say the word “scan” to examine points of interest. No matter what you do though, you won’t be able to utilize your Kinect like this guy.

Devil May Cry HD Collection Announced

In the latest iteration of the HD remake craze that’s sweeping the industry, Capcom has elected to release the Devil May Cry HD Collection.  The collection will encompass the first 3 games of the series.  To be clear, the 3rd game included in the collection will be the special edition, not the impossibly difficult original version of DMC 3: Dante’s Awakening

For those of you not familiar with the enigmatic Dante, the collection will be a great way to get yourselves acquainted.  It’s set to be available for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 in North America in early 2012 for a price tag of $39.99.  Here’s hoping that Capcom does a better job updating the graphics of these games than they did with the recent Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica HD remakes.  Also, changing some of the camera angles in DMC 2 would be more than welcome.

The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Will Have Game Tie-in

Even though it’s only been a little
over a week since the release of Spider-Man:
Edge of Time
, there’s already a trailer for the next Spider-Man game. Unveiled by Activision at the New York Comic-Con, The Amazing Spider-Man video game will
tie into the upcoming movie. The minute-long gameplay trailer shows bits and
pieces of Spider-Man rapidly web-swinging his way across New York. The trailer
ends with a summer 2012 release date for the game, which presumably will be
close to the July 3rd date the film hits theaters.

Halo Waypoint Revamp in Fall, Anniversary Goes Gold

With Call of Duty Elite and Battlefield 3’s Battlelog entering the
fray, tracking services for multiplayer statistics is becoming a huge deal, and
now the Halo franchise’s Waypoint
service suddenly finds itself with competition. While Waypoint will not have a
premium component, 343 Studios plans to expand this service. The most notable
addition is ATLAS (which stands for “Advanced Technical Assault System). ATLAS,
which runs on a Windows Phone 7, provides the player with a top-down view of
any Halo Reach or Halo: Anniversary multiplayer map. This
map is updated in real-time, allowing players to keep track of their teammates’
position and weapon drop placements.
