Xbox Indie Titles Officially “Games” Again

After being shuffled around by Microsoft, Xbox Live Indie Games have been returned to the Games & Demos section of the Xbox Marketplace, reports gameindustry.biz.

The re-re-categorizing follows last week’s update to the Xbox dashboard, which placed the indie games in the “Specialty Shops” section alongside clothes for Xbox Avatars. Furthermore, the indie games no longer showed up in Marketplace search results.

Though Microsoft said that the move was meant to make Xbox Live Indie Games easier to find, many indie developers saw their work as being marginalized by Microsoft. A gameindustry.biz article from last week quotes Xbox indie developer Michael C. Neel as saying, “We [are] now beside the walking dead Game Room…The list of Specialty Shops is almost a ‘VH1 Where are they now?’ episode.”

New Transformers, Spider-Man, X-Men Games for 2011

Activision is prepared to roll out new Transformer, Spider-Man and X-Men games for 2011, according to a story on CVG. The publishing giant held an investors conference call Nov. 4 where Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg promised new releases in “proven franchises,” such as the above properties.

Hirshberg said that these games would be in addition to a new installment of the Call of Duty franchise in 2011. One X-Men game has already been announced for next year – X-Men Destiny, which will be developed by Too Human developer Silicon Knights. The announcement of new Spider-Man and Transformers games are not too surprising given the positive reception of this summer’s Transformers: War For Cybertron and September’s Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle Missing AC Adapter

Those of you with multiple Xbox 360 consoles may want to take heed. If you buy the new Kinect Xbox 360 bundle, you will not receive a Kinect power adapter. The reason of course is that the new 360’s do not require the power cord as they have a dedicated port so the Kinect can draw its power directly from the console. If you want to use the Kinect on another 360 in your house, say one that is not a Slim, you may be out of luck. The only way to get the cord is to buy the standalone Kinect.

Dead Rising 2 Hits 2 Million Copies Sold

It seems that Capcom’s zombie killin’, chainsaw usin’… zombie killin’ game Dead Rising 2 has surpassed two million copies within its first month of release. I’m a bit surprised by this, in all honesty. I’m assuming the “pre-lc” that was released (Case Zero) did wonders for the sales numbers but not even I expected that many sold, that quickly; especially when Dead Rising 1 sold only around one million copies.

“Capcom is pleased to confirm that since its release at the end of September Dead Rising 2 has achieved  global shipment numbers of over two million units,  bringing the total number of  units of the Dead  Rising franchise shipped worldwide to date to over four  million. The achievement of Dead Rising 2 is a result of the successful collaboration between Capcom and Vancouver based developer Blue Castle Games.”
