Dead Island In-Game Footage

The internet was ablaze with talk about Dead Island for months, even though all we had to go on was an animated short film that didn’t actually have any footage of the actual game.  After a few months of salivating over the awesome teaser video, we can finally see what the game looks like in action, thanks to this video that the developer released today.

New Screenshots for Catherine

The new screenshots for Atlus’ weird new adventure/puzzle/ girlfriend sim game, Catherine confirm that the game is still weird.  The new images show a cute new redhead, lots of sheep symbolism and our band of heroes goofing around at the bar that serves as a gathering point for characters in the story.

The Darkness 2 Teaser Trailer

So Nolan
North is apparently voicing Jackie in the sequel
that’s about all you can take
from this short trailer. Going by the voiceover, it seems Jackie has kept The
Darkness away since the first game and The Darkness isn’t too happy about it.
Hopefully
this means that the game will cover Jackie battling to control The
Darkness and the obvious problems that it’s going to cause, but we’ll have
to wait and see for any story details.

Outland Demo Impressions

Recently a new XBLA title piqued my interest as I shuffled through the new releases. Actually, it wasn’t the title so much as the cover: a shadowy figure etched with glowing blue and red runes and wielding a massive sword. Outland has a style that borrows tiny bits from other hit games. While the description in the Marketplace says that Outland is “inspired by Prince of Persia” (and both were produced by Ubisoft), there’s very little similarity between the two games. Both heroes climb ledges and use a sword, I suppose, but then so do Link, Dante and BOTH Assassin’s Creed assassins, and none of those are even remotely similar games. But this game is…different.

More Need for Speed Runs to Consoles in November

After an early leak last Thursday, EA made an official
announcement
on Friday that their next installment of the Need for Speed franchise is
arriving this November.

Titled Need for Speed: The Run, this installment expands
on the underground street racing theme that some of the past titles in the
franchise used, such as Underground and Most Wanted. However, you’re not just
trying to win races in some fictional city; the game’s main story mode is
actually a cross-country race from San Francisco to New York.

Redbox to Offer Games Nationwide in June

It’s been a few years since GameFly became the Netflix of video games rentals, but there hasn’t been a Redbox for gaming. That will all change in June when Redbox themselves will begin offering game rentals along with their movie selection. For those of you unfamiliar with the service, a Redbox is essentially a vending machine for movie rentals. As opposed to other physical retail rental chains, such as the recently bankrupt Blockbuster, Redbox locations can be anywhere from a gas station to a fast food restaurant. When you’re finished, you just return the disc to any Redbox location. Rentals for films are a dollar a day on DVD, or for 50 cents more you can get a Blu-Ray. According to Redbox, games will be a little more at $2 a day.

New Brink Trailer Released, SMART Tutorial

The newest Bethesda published title, Brink, is coming out in
a matter of weeks and Bethesda and Splash Damage have both published a new
trailer for their hotly anticipated title. In the trailer/tutorial, you’re
introduced to the SMART system in Brink.

While some of the more recent Bethesda published titles have
been horrible (Rogue Warrior, Wet), there seems to be a ton of potential in
Brink. The combat looks fun and frantic and the classes all seem unique and fun
to play.

Thankfully, we only have to wait two more weeks for Brink as
it releases on May 10th on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Hydrophobia Sequel Coming?

The slightly divisive yet mostly terrible Hydrophobia,
released last September, has been thrashed violently ever since its release and
now Dark Energy Digitals seems to want to make another one Hydrophobia. This
one being called Hydrophobia: Prophecy, the game has not been announced yet but
it has appeared on a classification database out of Australia. While this is an
odd place to find an unannounced game, it seems to be legit.

If you don’t remember, Dark Energy Digital released a free
update to Hydrophobia a few months ago called Hydrophobia Pure. I played it and
I have to say, it wasn’t as horrible as the original game was. Though that is
like saying shit smells better than puke. It improved on some of controls which
is nice but it’s impossible to change the horrid voice work and pitiful story
in just an update. We can hope that in this possible sequel, they’ll fix every
issue. I’m not holding my breath until they do though.
