Console gamers got to enjoy Crysis 2 earlier this year, but the first game in the series was a PC exclusive that could only be enjoyed by gamers with top-of-theline gaming rig. That’s all going to change next month when Cryteck bringsCrysis to both Xbox and PS3 as a downloadable game.
The day after Labor Day marks an enormous release date for the industry, with big name titles like Dead Island, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, and Driver: San Francisco all being released to this week. As the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee soak the Northeast to its core, gamers in the region should be happy to have a great excuse to sit back and enjoy a new release or two this weekend. A new trailer for eagerly-anticipated shooter Gears
of War 3, entitled ‘From Dust to Dust’, has hit the internet, showing
off some stunning footage of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad battling to save the
earth and the rest of humanity.
There
has been, in certain quarters of the gaming world, a frenetic buzz around the announcement
that classic action-RPG-brawler Guardian Heroes would be released
with shiny, updated HD graphics on Xbox Live Arcade since the story was
announced back in May. The hype is
surely due to intensify with the news today that the game will be released on
October 12th, for a mere 800 Microsoft points.
Ryan Payton, the man in charge of overseeing the creative team behind the next trilogy of Halo games, has walked away from 343 Industries. Payton claims that the game had become a “crazy endeavor” and that he had “a great run at Microsoft.”
Following in the
footsteps of Gears of War 3 and Kinect Star Wars, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
will also have its own special edition themed Xbox 360 console. Microsoft and Activision announced that the
console will have a 320GB hard drive, which, along with the Gears of War 3 and
Star Wars console, will be the largest hard drive for an Xbox 360 to date.
During the keynote
speech at the Call of Duty XP fan convention, Activision Publishing CEO Eric
Hirshberg announced that the premium portion of the Call of Duty Elite
subscription service will cost $50 a year. Access to monthly DLC is the main
draw to this service, as Hirshberg noted that buying the DLC on its own would
cost $60. The DLC is planned to contain new modes and missions, along with
multiplayer maps, over a nine-month “DLC season.”
The Xbox Live Indie Summer Uprising approaches its conclusion with today’s game Train Frontier Express, a multiplayer train simulator by the two person development company of Team Train Frontier.
The votes have been cast, and the winner is…the redhead! The Mass Effect community
selected the new female Commander Shepard pictured below in a contest
to choose the look of their new playable heroine (you can thank concept
artist Patryk Olejniczak for the fiery vixen). Unfortunately for her,
her only entry in the franchise’s trilogy will be her last, as BioWare
has recently confirmed that the upcoming Mass Effect 3 will “complete” Commander Shepard’s story.
The Indie Games Summer Uprising is rapidly drawing to a close with only 3 more days remaining, but it’s not over yet. The featured game for the 2nd Tuesday of the event is SpeedRunner HD, an adaptation of the fast-paced platformer that released in flash format on the web in June 2011.
