The floodgates have been fully opened, and the Halo news is pouring out. Just as predicted, this week has been full of surprises, and it’s safe to say the Halo hype train is chuggin’ along at full speed. However, with just over a month until Reach’s release, we’re entering dangerous ground. With constant Halo info comes the risk of possible leaks and spoilers. You can have confidence that The Monitor will provide the most Halo news possible without the risk of spoiling the game. Should any gray areas come about, I’ll be certain to warn you before proceeding.

This week it’s double the savings, and double the fun. We have two games to offer you to try, and they’re at our usually low low price. So get ready to laugh, but be ready for a fright as well. This feature is a bit bipolar! Hello, and welcome to a special session of the Xbox Economist! This time the feature will be show you the best way to spend your buck, and give you the best fun to price ration possible. However unlike before it will be giving you double the usual amount of cheap games that you should try out, As always be mindful that there might be small spoilers, and that this is not a review (it’s a friendly recommendation). Also there may be naughty language.

Medal of Honor: Beta Thoughts

So this guy was all up in my house wondering… “What’s on the television set?&” and being the old fashioned type of dude that I am, I replied to him: “Looks like a penguin…” then he’s all like, “You stole that from Monty Python,” and I was all like… “No… there is a penguin on the set,” because at the time, I had a pet penguin I called Pub-the-dub and he liked the heat of the television set so he stayed up there. So then we got into this fight, and yada-yada-yada I started to play this game. Oh hi! I’m Tristan Wong, one of the writers for this fine site and recently I got my hands on something… something divine… something rich, something that involves a certain director named Steven Spielberg. This game is so legendary, I can’t even remember it’s divine na—wait… it’s in the title of this article, what the hell am I thinking…

What’re You Doing This Weekend? 8/6/10

This coming Tuesday is probably the most sacred of all the annual Video Game High Holidays: Madden release day. This weekend, I have to plow through the game in all of its modes to get the review up on the site (check in Monday) and prep a piece for the podcast. It’s hard work, but someone has to do it.

Top 5 Xbox Live Arcade Games

While this may contradict the point of this list a bit, it doesn’t matter that Limbo is slightly better than Geometry Wars 2. Every one of the games mentioned are great. Buy them, enjoy them, or hate them. And tell us why we’re wrong/right in the comments below, reader.

5. Hexic HD- Hexic was everyone’s first, and favorite arcade title. Who cares that it’s not technically an arcade title (since you can’t redownload it), but since the Xbox 360 labels it so I will too. The game barely makes the list, but because it’s so much fun and free it gets my vote.

Top 5 Sci-fi Clichés

So like all good games, stories tend to stumble into these weird sci-fi cliche’s that will just… poke at you like an annoying child in dire need of them french fries. I mean, all sci-fi’s do that, and odd reasons aside… someone just isn’t commenting on them. So here is that article that will uncover some of the more apparent cliche’s that will make you rethink your outlook on the story itself.

The Monitor: A Weekly Halo Update

This is your weekly ride on the Halo hype train. It’s an exciting time to be a Halo fan. We’re just over a month out from a major title release, which means the folks over at Microsoft, Bungie, and 343 Industries have started pumping out all of the television adds, articles, and products needed to keep the Halo community drooling, as well as try and hook as many last minute stragglers who might be wandering around the Call of Duty isle.

The Future Back Past Here — The Doom Look

And that’s why the French don’t wash… oh hi! I’m Tristan Wong, one of the writers of Player Affinity, and today I have decided to do something a little different this time around. I have recently bought this pack on steam, it’s the coolest thing in the world and I thought the deal was too good to pass up. So I got off my ass and got the credit card and I bought… drum roll please.

Top Five Growing Strategy Trends

Strategy is a pain in the ass genre that really likes to stick it to you when you believe one unit should be able to do the job of hundreds… well, back then the genre just didn’t understand the concept of versatility and usefulness and the strategies boiled down to mass and rush which can be very irritating. Welcome to the world where the new is examined and pin pointed as the most useful thing we have come across to make strategy games a little more use-friendly since… that game with four zero’s… WARHAMMER, thank you.

Top 5 Xbox Games of 2010 So Far

This year has been quite the year for games so a few of us at the Xbox team figured we’d count off our top 5 games we played on the Xbox 360 this year so far. Keep in mind, this list is not based to exclusives only.

5. Bioshock 2- Many people, including myself, were skeptical going into Bioshock 2, it had a new developer and the first game felt as if it did not really need a sequel. It did take a while to get going, but once it did, it was a blast. The story was of course nowhere near as spectacular and immersive as its processors but it was enough to keep us chugging along in this beautiful and fun game.
