So Many Games, So Little Money: Week of November 14

As
every gamer knows, video games are an expensive hobby. So many games are
released in so little time, and the only thing holding you back are those
little green pieces of paper you have (or more likely, don’t have) in your
pocket. This week is especially painful for us gamers without cash, as Halo Anniversary, Saints Row: The Third,
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Need for Speed:
The Run are all being released. If you only have enough money to buy one
game, which should it be? Assuming your wallet survived the launch of Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
3, and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,
that is.

Skyrim: A Beginner’s Guide

The
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of those games that don’t come
around very often.  A huge, expansive
world, the freedom to build whatever type of character you want, and lots and
lots of dragons.  It’ll also undoubtedly be
stuffed full of history, legends and the lore of Tamriel, which is great for
those of us who’ve played the previous games in the Elder Scrolls series and know our Mehrunes Dagon from our Dagon
Fel, but perhaps a little intimidating for any newcomers.

Achievement Unlocked – Modern Warfare 3, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Metal Gear Solid

Hello again, Achievement Hunters! As we come into what is one of the final big release weeks of the year, the achievements offer a wide array of interesting ways to both challenge and frustrate you.

Starting off the week, Modern Warfare 3 has finally arrived and besides giving a definitive ending to an epic series, it also offers fans a chance to enjoy some interesting achievement options. MW3 has the most simplistic of the week with, “Back to the Fight” which you earn by starting the game. The rest are earned through completing levels on various difficulties and finding collectibles, essentially the garden variety achievements. However one of the last you are sure to earn is “Serrated Edge” meaning you finish off a Juggernaut in Special Ops with a knife. Seems like the toughest you will find from this experience.

Why Play Modern Warfare 3 When You Can Play Daikatana?

Welcome to the final installment of our series on games you should play instead of Modern Warfare 3.  Some of you may not be old enough to remember it, but long, long ago, in 1997, development started on the biggest hype train to ever hit the rails of the video game industry – even more hype than Modern Warfare 3.  John Romero, the genius behind Doom, was set to revolutionize the first-person shooter genre.  Released on May 23, 2000, this title remains as one of the most overhyped flops to ever grace this planet. Of course, I’m talking about Daikatana.

October has given Xbox gamers quite a few great games, and it’s going to be hard to pick the Best of the Month, with the greatest super hero game of all time going head-to-head against one of the most anticipated shooters of the year.

Skyrim: Howling at the Bloodmoon

Given the impending release of the latest entry in
Bethesda’s venerated Elder Scrolls series, the gaming community has been
inundated with previews, interviews, and other media touting the new features
Skyrim will introduce to the land of Tamriel. 
Devoted fans of the series, seething with anticipation, have dissected
and reassembled everything we know thus far about this frigid northern region
and its prophesied hero, the Dragonborn.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Marks the Return to Los Santos

It has been four years since Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto 4 to the world with a trailer that took the Internet by surprise. To this date GTA 4 has sold close to 22 million copies across all platforms, and naturally everyone held their breath today as Rockstar posted their trailer for the newly announced numbered sequel.

The 84 second-long trailer offered little information regarding platforms, release dates or protagonist(s), but it confirms a location: Los Santos, the fictional version of Los Angeles seen in the previous Grand Theft Auto game San Andreas from 2004. A quick glimpse of a trio hiking in the mountains teases a big feature from the old San Andreas game, where you had the freedom to drive around the countryside between the three major cities of Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas.
