We’re still trying to catch up on all the great games that hit in 2011, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t already excited about what the future holds for our favorite console. Player Affinity’s Xbox Department takes a look at the upcoming crop of new games and which ones Xbox owners should keep their eyes on.
We’ve been talking about our favorite games from the last year, but amidst all the instant classics that emerged in 2011, there were plenty of games that seemed on the verge of greatness… until we actually played them. Maybe it was slick marketing, or perhaps franchise loyalty, or completely unfounded optimism, but we all played some games this year that just didn’t live up to our expectations.
We’re another day closer to the end of 2011, but before we turn our attention our most anticipated games of 2012, let’s take another look back our favorite titles from the past year with Chris Mole’s ten favorite Xbox games of 2011.
With another year in the books, allow me to list my top 10 Xbox 360 games of 2011. While this list may not surprise you, my pick for #10 certainly will. Read on:

The Holiday Season is coming to an end. It has been a great year for video games with console sales up from a year before. The industry has seen many games like Uncharted 3, Skyrim andGears of War 3 succeed in the market. Even though it was a big year for both Microsoft and Sony, the biggest debate in the industry is which one is better. 2011 was suppose to be the year of Playstation 3, but did it finally top the Xbox 360 and become top console on the market? From console exclusives, to online play, to the rise in motion gaming, who won?
First things first, I need to talk about online play for both respected consoles. Last year, one of the biggest strengths for the Xbox 360 was Xbox Live. Microsoft Summer Arcade was again huge during the summer. Games like Bastion, From Dust and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet were available for a low price and were all editor choices here at Player Affinity. Along with that, it managed to improve on its online experience with the most recent dashboard update. Soon Xbox Live will be an entertainment complex that isn’t just known for playing games. In the coming months Hbo GO, Youtube, Xfinity TV (Comcast) andUFC will all be available, unlike the Playstation network
The Spike VGA Awards are a yearly fixture in the gaming industry’s calendar, a celebration of the titles that have really set the gaming world alight and an opportunity for developers to tease and torment fans with footage of their upcoming releases. This year’s awards, held at the Sony Pictures Studios in California last Friday, did not disappoint. A number of the superb games that have been released this year walked away with well-deserved awards, and a number of developers took the opportunity to build even more anticipation for their upcoming games. Without further ado, here’s our (fairly brief) round-up of the Spike VGA Awards 2011.
In the final moments of the commentary track on this DVD the writer, Burnie Burns, wonders aloud why Red VS Blue is the only webseries in its 10th season. He quickly answers his own question with because “No one else is this stupid”.
Do you know someone who lives and dies for the deathmatch? You know, the guy who pounds mountain dew after mountain dew to assure his dominance of all who dare to challenge him through the late night hours? Well, if he hasn’t already played all of the games on this list, one of the following games could very well make a great gift for the guy whose reflexes are just too quick to measure.
