Woody Harrelson cast in Han Solo Spin-off Movie
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first anthology film in the
Star Wars a high hit with fans and critics, making $918.8 Million at the worldwide box office and has a positive 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The next film in the Anthology Series will be a prequel about the young Hans Solo and it has been announced on the
official Star Wars website a new actor has joined the cast: Woody Harrelson.
Harrelson has had a long and distinguished career in film and television. Starting his career on the sitcom
Cheers, Harrelson has been nominated for two Academy Awards (for his roles in
The People vs. Larry Flynt and
The Messenger) and won an Emmy for his role as Woody Boyd. Younger audiences will properly know Harrelson best as Haymitch Abernathy in
The Hunger Games series, the only District 12 winner of the Games before Katniss and Petra. Other recent Harrelson credits include
Zombieland,
Seven Psychopaths and HBO's
True Detective and he is set to play the villain in
War for the Planet of the Apes.
21 Jump Street and
The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are helming the spin-off and they have stated there are excited to have Harrelson on board. Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover are set to play Han Solo and Landon Calrissian while
Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke has been cast in an unspecified role. There is no word the role Harrelson will play but it has been rumored in
Variety that he would play Han's mentor.
The "Untitled Han Solo Anthology Film" is currently penciled in for a 25 May 2018 release date.
