Possible New Nintendo IP

Objectively speaking, Nintendo had one of the strongest E3 press conferences this year. Subjectively speaking, said presentation was also the most satiating. However, if you fancy yourself an uber-cynic, then there may be even more Nintendo-centric news to eat away at the black hole that is your heart. On July 29, during a shareholders meeting in the company’s Kyoto headquarters, Shigeru Miyamoto started dropping hints of “a new character.”

Starting with a Q&A session, Miyamoto started speaking of activities currently holding his interests. Some of which included, swimming and being part of a youth help organization. As history denotes, when Miyamoto usually speaks of hobbies along comes new intellectual property. Hence was the case with Pikmin and Miyamoto’s love of gardening.

Donkey Kong Country Returns + Video Footage

You would not be blamed if you came away from the previous couple E3’s feeling a little bored with Nintendo. With titles like Wii Fit, Wii Music and the unveiling of the Vitality Sensor Nintendo did not make themselves any friends with the “hardcore” gaming community.

However, Nintendo seems to be making a strong attempt to change all of that. Today, not only have we seen new installments in the Kid Icarus, Zelda, and Kirby series, but now a return to Donkey Kong Country as well.

Nintendo + Activision = New Goldeneye

Rumors swirled the internet about it, and before even that, everyone wondered what kind of drugs Activision was on for voluntarily losing it’s biggest money-making franchise. Not surprisingly, Activision had an answer for the skeptics. However, what is surprising is that Nintendo unveiled it during their E3 conference. Of course, the “it” I’m talking about is the new Activision developed, Goldeneye for the Wii.

The Week of May 30th in DSiWare

This week, Nintendo released 4 titles on DSiWare called X-Scape, Hero of Sparta, A Topsy Turvy Life: The Turvys Strike Back, and Telegraph Sudoku & Kakuro. Here’s a brief description of each title, courtesy of Joystiq: X-Scape (Nintendo, 1 player, 800 DSi Points): You’re suddenly awakened from 10 years of deep cryosleep to find yourself engaged in battle against an evil empire in this 3D shooter. Man, if only we had a dollar for every time that happened to us!

The Week of May 23rd in DSiWare

Here’s a list of the new games on DSiWare this week from the Nintendo Press Release, which include Metal Torrent, World Poker Tour Texas Hold ‘Em, Jack the Ripper, and Advanced Circuits. Prepare for a high level of intensity as you pilot a solo ship deep into enemy space in this vertically scrolling shooter. Battle wave after wave of relentless attackers aiming to do one thing – destroy you! Your goal, beyond mere survival, is simple:

Scooby-Doo finds a new mystery

Apparently they’re still making Scooby Doo games and “Scooby Doo! And The Spooky Swamp” is the next one. Developed by Torus Games, a small independent developer in Australia, Scooby Doo! And The Spooky Swamp will be released alongside the upcoming animated Scooby-Doo film (Direct to DVD?), Scooby Doo! Camp Scare, and will “expand the Scooby-Doo franchise with more of the mystery and exploration that video game fans have come to adore,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.” From my reading of the press release, the game seems to be a puzzle/adventure title.

No More Heroes 2 Lingerie & European Launch

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle launches in Europe and Australia May 28^th. That is this Friday!

Desperate Struggle’s UK Publisher Rising Star Games has teamed up with Bedtime Flirt to release some No More Heroes themed lingerie based off the characters Naomi, Sylvia and Shinobu. The lingerie is already on sale to coincide with No More Heroes 2’s launch.

The outfits look vaguely faithful to the characters, so unless you look a great deal like one of the characters or have the accessories to match it, then this will look like any other piece of lingerie on you. It may provide for a quick and easy solution for cosplayers. However, with some time and effort it is not had to imagine someone managing to put together better recreations of these characters.

Nintendo Employee Attacks Man in Kyoto

Police in Kyoto, Japan have arrested Nintendo employee Jin Nakanose for assaulting a man in a shopping center. The assault took place May 23^rd, 2010 at Loc Town in Kumiyama Town, Kyoto.

When asked why the incident took place, Nakanose responded that he was patiently waiting to enter the shopping center parking lot when the victim cut him off. This enraged Nakanose causing him to pull the victim from his vehicle and repeatedly punching him in the face and body. The victim is alive and is estimated to need two weeks to recover from the injuries received from the attack.

Wii Fit Personal Trainers at Trump Hotel

Wii Fit may or may not actually be that great as an actual fitness routine. Some claim to have achieved health benefits, at least in part, due to Nintendo’s fitness software.  Regardless of how effective it really is; Wii Fit is probably better for you than just sitting on the couch.

The Trump Hotel in Las Vegas offers their guests hour long gaming sessions with personal trainers… at a high price, stranger. The “Wii Sports Package” entails a personal trainer coming to your suite, giving you and your family private instruction on how to get the most out of our gaming experience with not only Wii Sports, but Wii Fit as well all for a reasonable $90.00.

The New Features of Super Mario Galaxy 2

In this generation, Nintendo has had issues appealing to both their hardcore fans and the new, casual fans that aren’t familiar with their existing franchises. With Super Mario Galaxy 2, however, Nintendo hopes to please both sides with new mechanics and features that make the game more difficult and more accessible at the same time.
