So, StarCraft II’s Multiplayer Scares You?

It’s finally on the cusp of release and considering what gave Blizzard’s original StarCraft its lasting legacy, its multiplayer, there’s the understandable fear of being completely trounced once you enter the online arena. So, I’m here to help with some basic steps that apply to every race in the game. I was once like you; scared, helpless and so intimidated by the multiplayer space that I almost didn’t try out the beta, but here I am, placed in the silver league before the beta closed down just two days ago. If I can do it, so can you. Remember, this is basic, foundation-type stuff. This article only really helps the utterly helpless and/or/and probably/and absolutely retarded.

The Week of July 18th in Nintendo Downloads

Another week, another exciting list of Nintendo downloads (although Virtual Console is mysteriously missing again). As usual, this is taken straight from the Nintendo Press Release. Enjoy. The selection of downloadable games for the WiiWare™ service and the Nintendo DSiWare™ service keeps on growing, this time with a zoological twist.

Limbo Review

Limbo has been a silent game since its announcement. Though in the past months, it’s taken full charge. Winning plenty of Indie Game awards and being placed as the opener for this year’s Summer of Arcade. Limbo has been compared vigorously to last year’s Braid. This is a tough comparison for Limbo as some could argue Braid as the best Xbox Live Arcade game yet. I never thought that, I couldn’t decide what the best Xbox Live Arcade game was. Now, Limbo has arrived and made that choice much easier.

Naughty Bear Review

As the titular character, Naughty Bear, it is your job to live up to your namesake. Naughty Bear is about causing chaos and scaring the crap out of as many giant bears as possible. Surprisingly, the game hasn’t caught the attention of the news media with its colorful, childlike storybook demeanor that harbors the mind of a serial killer. Unfortunately for gamers, no one thought to protest the release of Naughty Bear to the masses.

Imagining Dragon Age 2

A little over a year after its predecessor, Dragon Age 2 will hit the shelves, quenching gamers’ thirst for blood and adventure. The fan community is bubbling over with thoughts on what the game may or may not entail, with confirmed details few and far between.

Dragon Age appealed both to the passion for slaying things with swords and the appreciation of a great story. The writers went to great lengths to develop a history for the lands of Thedas, and complex relationships amongst its peoples. Politics, religion, and war weave together to form a rich back story. It remains unclear exactly where and when the new game will be set. It is said to take place in a new part of the world and span a decade.

Game Plus Confusion

Flipping through the titles in the Playstation Store, I couldn’t help notice some downloadable games with the word “FREE” written beneath them. Each of these titles had a tiny gold plus symbol hovering just above their right sides. I realized that these offers were only for Playstation Plus subscribers and found myself oddly drawn to useless content I had never wanted or cared about before. For fifty dollars I could secure a twelve month subscription. As an added incentive for early adopters, an additional three months would be tacked on for taking the plunge from the outset of the service. During a weak moment of greed and acute heat exhaustion, I had become a Playstation Plus member.

What We’re Playing (7/13/10)

We’re back with another week of inane rambling about games! This week we’re fronting Steven Beynon, Tristan Wong, Josh Margolis, and myself. Here’s what we’re playing.

Steven – “DeathSpank currently hogs all my love and attention. This is one of the only games I’ve ever played that’s actually funny. It’s constant parody of fantasy titles feels refreshing and is a rarity in videogames. Oh, and the RPG-part is pretty cool, too. For the $15.00 I highly recommend this snarky loot-filled adventure. Check out my impressions on DeathSpank for more.”

Tristan – “This weekend, I’m actually going to shift focus and go back to an old classic on my PC, and a couple new games I finally got a couples days ago (EB games just don’t understand urgency…) I am to venture through three games, Singularity which I need to play through, Naughty Bear (terrible… god I wish I didn’t have to review this game), and ‘Sins of a Solar Empire,‘ the strategy heavy juggernaut from the guys at Stardock and Ironclad games. If you haven’t gotten to try Sins of a Solar Empire, you must do it–I mean, it takes the strategy of Civilizations (if you haven’t heard of that game, I’m going to find you and dig you out of that rock you hide under) and puts it into the real-time strategy genre, and the results as such are just… I can’t explain it, get off your ass and play it now! DO IT!
