Machinarium Developer Has “Pirate Amnesty” Sale

Do you own a copy of Machinarium, the award winning point-n-click adventure game by Czech developer Amanita Design?  Did you illegally download it?  Did you?

DID YOU?!

Well about 90% of the people who own Machinarium are software pirates, according to the developers.  If you stole a digital copy of any game, you are filthy thieving scum, a vile scoundrel, a villainous blackguard, and the reason the rest of us have to deal with Orwellian DRM software, and high prices. The only way to redeem yourself is to purchase a legitimate copy of every game you pirated.

If Machinarium is one of them, you’re in luck; Amanita Design is holding a “Pirate Amnesty” sale.  For a mere five bucks you can get a completely legal download of the game for PC, Mac or Linux, and the Soundrack as an MP3.  The sale is running until August 12th and is open to everyone, even if you aren’t dirty, stinking, commie, sub-human, savage, pirate filth.

There’s good news and bad news for Bioshock fans.  The bad news is that the PC version of the Single-Player “Protector Trials” didn’t come out for PC this week, even though it became available for Playstation and Xbox on August 3rd.  The good news is that, according to official posts from Elizabeth Tobey on the 2k forums is it is still on its way although there is no release date set at this time.  The Protector Trials will be available through Games For Windows Live, which some of you will consider to be yet another piece of bad news in of itself.

Gaming From Across the Pond 08.07.10

Hello fellow gamers and welcome to the next installment of Gaming from Across the Pond. I’m not going to try to lie to you about the fact that one thing has MAJORLY taken over my life at the moment, but before I talk about that I want to talk about a bit of news I posted earlier this week.

Some of you may, or may not, know about the FTC’s settlement with Intel. Personally I love it when a huge company starts throwing their weight around and playing unfair, only to have them taken down a peg or two. One of my pet peeves is people who don’t play fair. Though I’m not the head of a multi-million dollar corporation, I can guess it is a pretty much dog eat dog world. What I don’t agree with is using the power your business has to hinder your competitors. Why not use your resources to develop better products that blow your competition out of the water, instead of using bully tactics to control other companies. So with that rant over, it’s a well done from me to the FTC.

2K announces story-driven DLC for Bioshock 2

A new story driven, single-player DLC pack has just been announced for Bioshock 2. Minerva’s Den will actually be the forth piece of DLC for the game, along with the two multiplayer and one other single player add-on that are already available. But, it will be the first to have aspects that follow on directly from the main single player story. 2K have also said that this will be the last DLC for the game, but promises a significant amount of content. It is set to introduce new characters and locations, as well as bringing in new enemies to the world of Rapture.
