James Bond 007: Blood Stone Review

James Bond 007: Blood Stone takes on many action game styles, and while it does each of them fairly well, the overriding concern of the game is impressing a sense of dramatic flair and urgency upon the player. Developer Bizarre Creations has had a solid resume in driving titles, including such popular hits like the Project Gotham series, but also has shown itself to be a capable shooter developer in this title. The game consists of two gameplay modes: on-foot sequences that combine exploration, 3rd-person shooter combat with stealth elements and driving sequences that involve chasing a fleeing villain through city streets, hills and construction sites, narrowly avoiding hazards and dodging traffic.

Thursday Sales October 4th

Us PC Gamers are all feeing a bit spoiled right now.  Last week all the online stores had a bunch of great sales, and our hard drives are now bloated like vampire bats, gorged on our feast of succulent horror games.  Yet, just when we’re ready to pop like ticks, along comes a new weekend of downloadable treats for us to sink our fangs into.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam Preview

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released as a challenge to the hugely popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, keeping its unique Battlefield teamwork and coordination celebrated in previous titles in the series but introducing gameplay on a smaller and more directed scale. Streamlined to a degree, with smaller maps and more limited objectives, the latest BF title allowed for greater detail and interaction with the environment and opened up new strategies and tactics that were absent in larger and more empty landscapes. Basically acting as almost a reboot to the series via gameplay and graphics, it comes as no surprise that, like BF1942 before it, BF: BC2 has in the works a Vietnam expansion that is sure to impress.

Rock of the Dead Review

Small game developers have a hard time these days. It may be easier for smaller developers to get their name out there with download titles on XBL or PSN, but when it comes to full featured retail titles they still have a hard time breaking through. That’s why I’m sympathetic to the plight of Epicenter Studios and their most recent title Rock of the Dead. This is only the studios third title, the first two not really catching the gaming community’s attention. If there was a game that could find a niche and make a name for Epicenter Studios it would be Rock of the Dead. The game has all the makings of a cult hit; it features Rob Zombie, his music, Neil Patrick Harris, and Felicia Day. People in the know will recognize Neil and Felicia from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog; most others will at least recognize Rob Zombie from his multi-platinum solo albums and as part of the heavy metal band White Zombie. Needless to say the game has an enormous amount of potential but fails to live up to what could have been.

PSN and Store Releases for 11/02/10

After last weeks big drop, this week is not quite as impressive. There is a new James Bond game and a new Dragon Ball Z title among the PS3 store releases. And only two new full titles for download on PSN, including the God of War Collection, which has been in stores for a while now so you could probably pick it up for a good discount if you looked around.

Krabbitworld Origins Review

Krabbitworld Origins is a game that I wanted to like.  It’s an independent title developed by two people, it has wonderful music, distinctive character design, and a long history behind it dating back to a 2D MMO from ten years ago which proves that Krabbitworld is a labor love rather than a quick app intended to cash in on the latest commercial trends.  Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy my stay in Krabbitworld as much as I had hoped.
