Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood has only been out for a little over a week and Ubisoft has already announced they are preparing a fourth installment of the series for release next year.
This announcement, reported by MCV, comes close on the heels of Brotherhood’s European release, where it sold over one million copies in less than a week. This makes it Ubisoft’s fastest-selling game in Europe and one of its biggest global franchises.
Geoffroy Sardin, Ubisoft’s marketing and sales chief for Europe, Middle East and Asia, declared Brotherhood as the best launch in the history of the company’s European sales. He also chalked up the game’s success to the fact that Ubisoft “transformed the brand from a single player one to a multiplayer one.”
Just when you thought that dredging up old favorites like Ghostbusters to be remade in a modern gaming context was overly nostalgic, another popular movie series is staging a comeback. Back to the Future: The Game is an adventure game that is being developed by Telltale Games, a company well known for its graphic adventures ranging from Sam & Max to their best known work,Tales of Monkey Island. It has been commented that Telltale Games are one of, if not the best, developers to get the episodic-style of games refined to the best experienced possible. Both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd return to provide their likenesses, unfortunately, Fox does not provide the voice for Marty, that role has been assigned to AJ LoCascio.
If you’re an altruistic nerd and you’ve had your fill with the Mass Effect Marathon for Charity that is currently running, you can also tune into another geek charity event this weekend. Geeks With Issues is holding a 24-hour telethon called The Battle Against Dysentery III: Wagon Train of Destiny. They’ll be playing the old Apple educational game Oregon Trail for 24 hours straight and, for those of you who don’t get the joke, that game was about 19th century pioneers and featured all sorts of historically accurate problems for them to deal with, including dysentery.
This year we’ve had non-stop sales since the week before Halloween, so there really isn’t anything special about Black Friday. Earlier this week we covered some other Thanksgiving Sales, and many of them are still going on. However there are a few new sales that just started today, so let’s take a look.
As you wildly zoom around the internet today looking for Black Friday deals, please keep in mind that your money could also be spent on acts of charity. One of the most prominent gaming-related charities is Child’s Play, and many gaming organizations are holding live gaming marathons to raise money for it. Last week we had the Desert Bus For Hope and a Fallout New Vegas Marathon, the week before there was a Mega Man Marathon. This weekend the altruistic nerds at G33kwatch.com are playing through both Mass Effect games to raise money.
There’s some good news for people who are addicted to the Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood multiplayer. Ubisoft says the first batch of juicy, delicious DLC will be 100% free. The update will contain a new map which will be set in Mont Saint-Michel on a rocky tidal island in Normandy. The map contains narrow streets, a bell tower and multiple levels.
