Weekend Sales Thursday April 21st

Did you miss Steam’s one-day sale on Bioshock 2 the other day?  Well, if you did, would you kindly head over to Direct2Drive.com?  They’re selling it for 75% off today only (Thursday the 14th) at $4.95.  While you’re over there, take a look at their casual sale on Zombie Shooter 2, which is going for three cents more than Bioshock 2.  I’m sure Zombie Shooter 2 is a fine game, but your money is better spent on a madcap romp through Rapture.

New Backbreaker Game Coming?

Backbreaker released last June with mostly negative reviews.
I played the game and I can vouch for the reviews; that game was not so good.
The tackling system was unique and unlike anything you’ll see in Madden, but
that was the only unique thing. As a matter of fact, that was the only good
thing. Something Backbreaker could have benefited from was more dev time, which
it will hopefully get as 505 Games has teased a sequel e with the image you can
find at the end of this news post.

Backbreaker may have been mostly terrible, but I’m excited
to hopefully see a sequel. If only the developers had worked more on the actual
“football” part of Backbreaker, it could have been much better. Maybe they’ll
take those criticisms to heart with whatever their next project will be.

Portal 2: The Details, the Comic, the Mysteries

To celebrate the release of the sequel to 2007’s game of the
year, this article will talk about all things revolving around the upcoming
(and inevitably great) Portal 2, from the announced comic, to the newly
announced Steam/Playstation 3 cross-over.

So, the premise, players reprise the role of the games
heroine Chell, after being under stasis for 700 years, after the events of the
first game. During stasis, psychotic AI named GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk
Operating System) and the rest of the Aperture Science facility has fallen into
disrepair. However, both Chell and GLaDOS are soon woken up by one of GLaDOS’s
personality cores. Displeased at the return of Chell, GLaDOS unleashes a new
range of chambers, where challenging platforming and complex physics-based
puzzles (with the use of the infamous portal gun) are the only way of escape.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Announced For PC and Consoles

To absolutely no one’s surprise, Capcom has announced yet another version of Super Street Fighter IV for PC and Consoles.  The new one is called Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, although we probably won’t have to wait too long before it’s up to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Championship Turbo Hyper-fighting.

L.A. Noire: Exclusive PS3 Content?

A
bit of new media has been floating around regarding Rockstar Game’s
upcoming title
L.A. Noire.
The detective thriller has been in the spotlight for some time now
and it seems that there
could
be some exclusive content in store for the PS3 version. Apparently, a
few retailers including Amazon, Gamestop, and Walmart have put up a
new version of the PS3 game box with “exclusive content” featured
on the front. However, this box also contains the “Only on
PlayStation” badge as well so the authenticity of this packaging is
to be examined. Preorder bonuses have already been arranged but there
is no material on the game’s official site that suggests anything
related to PS3-specific content, but there could be some updates in
the works.

Portal 2 Preview 2

Portal, released in 2007, set a new precedent for three dimensional puzzle games, creating a unique style and game design that still has not been matched. Developed by a bunch of DigiPen students hired by Valve after their discovery of the team’s school project Narbacular DropPortal tests players’ spatial senses by asking them to solve puzzles using two mind-bending blue and orange portals.  Gamers take on the role of an awakened test subject Chell Johnson, while a looming AI named GlaDOS threatens them with death and negotiates with promises of cake and parties. The game ends, predictably enough, with the apparent destruction of the rogue AI, yet a last minute retroactive continuity suggested escape from the facility was thwarted by a “party escort bot”.
