Weekend Sale Friday April 22nd

You’d think there would be more weekend sales themed around Easter this weekend, but there are only a few egg, bunny, and stigmata games in sight.  That’s not a problem, because there are plenty of non-Easter games on sale, like an RPG blowout at the Electronic Arts store.  Through this weekend you’ll get 33% off for Dragon Age, Ultima Online and Mass Effect, including special editions, and some DLC.  I suppose that Commander Shepherd’s resurrection in Mass Effect 2 has a little bit of Easter to it, so that should give you an excuse to skip church on Sunday and play video games.

The Last Standalone Released

Arguably the most popular game mode of the Dawn of War II franchise, “The Last Stand” pits groups of three players against 20 waves of enemies, each harder than the last, building up to a finale wave that tests players’ mettle. It is the most played mode, due to its simplicity and ease to simply jump in and play. As a result, Relic has released “The Last Standalone”, which allows you to purchase the popular game mode, predictably enough, as a standalone package at a reduced price point.

Weekend Deals Thursday April 21st

Easter is approaching, and holidays tend to have lots of great online game sales.  Even though it’s just Thursday we’re already looking at a whole basket of treats for the weekendd.  ImpulseDriven.com has a Daily Deal, good for today (Thursday the 21st) on Defense Grid: Gold which you can get for $3.49.  Of course, they also have a batch of Weekend Impulse Buys too, and this week all Company of Heroes games are 50% off (Prices vary), X3 Gold is going for $12.95, Making History: Complete Collection for $24.99, and they have Homesteader for $4.99.  The best of the lot at Impulse is their Runaway Bundle, which will get you all three games in that hit Adventure game series for $15.99.

Portal 2 Review

Portal has become a household name in gaming, the first iteration being nothing more than an experiment which became a phenomenon that Valve, and the student developers of Narbacular Drop, could never have predicted. Portals, cakes, and science (because we can) quickly became the memes of the year and beyond as Portalpermeated gaming culture in a profound way. Valve was pleased with this, and set to work quickly on a sequel, promising a lot more than a small experimental game with its second coming. Has Portal 2 lived up to the expectations produced by the original? Read on to find out.

The Last Guardian Delayed

Sony and Team Ico have chosen to delay both the upcoming PS3
exclusive The Last Guardian and the
HD re-release of the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus
Collection which had been scheduled for holiday/spring 2011 releases respectively.

Inversion Preview

Inversion is a third person gravity manipulation game that was announced way back in October of 2009. For around a year after that, there seemed to be almost a complete media blackout on Inversion. We’ll dive further into the recent developments of Inversion in a bit but as of now, let’s talk about what the original announcement press release set up for this gravity shaking (get it?) game.

Inversion is developed by Saber Interactive and Published by Namco Bandai. If you don’t know Saber, they made games such as Timeshift and the recent Battle: LA XBLA title. Both of these games were bashed pretty hard by critics for being too derivative of other shooters. Saber seems to have taken these complaints to heart as now they will combine the destructibility of the Havok engine (as seen in Red Faction: Guerilla) and the uniqueness of their many concepts placed within Inversion.

Rumour: God of War 4 Release Announced?

According to the unofficial playstation mag, PSM3, the
fourth instalment of the God of War series will be released in September 2012.
And with PSM3 being one of the most popular and respected playstation magazines
in the UK, it’s hard to deny that this is most likely the truth.
