DiRT 3 (PS3) Review

Dirt
3

is the newest addition to Codemasters’ off-road racing series, and is
easily the most complete and accessible game in the
Colin
McRae: Dirt

franchise. The latest title is a more mature driving experience which
is more subtle in terms of design and presentation. Having the heavy
action sports influence toned down quite a bit allows
Dirt
3

to appeal to those who want to see more professional racing action.
The game retains just the right amount of new-school racing jargon to
remain fresh, but also uses more traditional methods to draw in old
fans of rally games—such as a more mild soundtrack and less
commentary. Comparing
Dirt
3

to the previous games shows that the developers have found the
perfect mix of new and old, which makes for an all-around better
game.

Terraria Review

Terraria is a new game that was suddenly released, with little fanfare, by developer Re-Logic on May 16. It was anticipated for quite some time as a sort of 2D parallel to Minecraft,
being directly cited as a reference and taking several game elements
into scope. It’s an open world 2D platformer, with world building themes
and an odd RPG flair. It seems like it came out of nowhere in the
gaming world, and it has taken a lot of websites by storm, becoming the
flavor of the month for many people worldwide. Does it live up to this
indie hype, or is it just piggybacking off of an existing concept to
gain its fanfare?

Shadow Complex Review

I had heard a lot about Shadow Complex
by the time I had bought my second Xbox 360. I had not really played
many downloadable titles, but I knew I had a “thing” for side-scrolling
action platformers, and knew that it would be a worthy purchase
alongside Super Meat Boy. I didn’t have great hopes for it,
although in hindsight I’m not sure why, it really embodied a lot of
things I enjoy about the infamous “Metroidvania” phenomenon. I was pleasantly surprised by a great game with a solid story and beautiful graphics.

Do Pre-order Bonuses Unbalance Games?

“You can have this game for fifty bucks, but for sixty, I’ll make it slightly less enjoyable”.  That’s not a good deal, but that’s what has been offered to gamers with many titles released in the last year or so.

Developer Affinity – Monolith

Sometimes, you come across a game that just sticks with you. The gameplay is always fun, no matter how many times you play it.  The graphics will never age for you even though the game is 6 years old, and you’ll never forget the first time you floored a Replica Soldier with a SPAS-12 in slow motion. Fine, maybe that’s a little specific, but Monolith’s F.E.A.R. fits that description aptly. Monolith has also released a plethora of other quality games over the span of their existence and, over time, as I’ve experienced more and more of their titles, Monolith has become one of my favorite developers, and certainly worthy of attention.
