Game Play Theater Festival: Romeoo and Julietet – Review

Machinima is all the rage these days.  That’s when people use footage from
video games combined with voiceovers to tell stories. Unfortunately, very few
people are doing it well.  For
every hit like Red Versus Blue there are
hundreds of failed attempts.  Such
is the case with a live Machinima theatrical piece called Romeoo and
Julietet
.  It’s a production of “Romeo and Juliet” performed live in
World of Warcraft.

The producers of the show have set up laptops in a theater
in Brooklyn, with a projection screen showing the in-game events.  The players control World of
Warcraft
characters all named after
characters in Shakespeare’s play, and they type out their dialogue in the game
while a cast of recorded voice actors recite the lines for the audience in the
theater.  All of this is done live
in World of Warcraft, and anyone
playing the game can watch the performance live in-game at the same time the
audience in the theater is watching.

ModernWarfare3.com Redirects to Battlefield Website

ModernWarfare3.com is not what it seems! Activision owns
that right? Actually it would appear that EA has acquired the domain in order
to have it redirect viewers to the Battlefield website. On July 12th
when Modern Warfare 3 fans clicked on the domain, it would redirect them to
the page of their “battlefield” enemies. This URL was made in 2009 with no
indicated owner. Could this simply be a prank or is it more than that?

Infinity Ward Hires Hackers and Glitchers

Calling all Call of Duty hackers and glitchers,
Infinity Ward is hiring! We all know that the Call of Duty series has its share
of hackers who jump through hoops and leap over all obstacles just to find a
glitch to gain an advantage when they are playing the game. Well now Infinity
Ward has actually gone as far as to fly out a handful of well-known game
hackers to Infinity Ward studios in order to have them test Modern Warfare 3. The primary purpose of this is for these individuals to find any glitch
in the game that they possibly can in order to provide quality game play for honest players.

Console Exclusives We Want on PC: The Darkness

There
have always been plenty of licensed games available and for the longest
time they held a reputation for being poorly made attempts to cash in
on a franchise. It’s only recently that that has changed with licensed
games like Batman: Arkham Asylum topping Game of the Year lists, but one of the first quality licensed games was The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. Escape From Butcher Bay was developed by Starbreeze Studios who was a relatively unknown developer at the time, and following Escape From Butcher Bay they developed a game based on The Darkness comics.

Sony Investing $20 Million in PSN Titles

Sony wants more exclusive games on PlayStation Network and they are spending 20 million dollars to make it happen. It
is news like this that fuels my desire to replace my old 40 gigabyte
PS3 with a new one sporting a much bigger hard drive. I primarily play
my console downloadable titles on Live for this simple reason and have
unfortunately missed out on quite a few awesome looking PSN exclusives; I do hope to rectify this later in the year.
