Duke Nukem Forever DLC Detailed

To a universal sigh of indifference, Gearbox has released the first details of DLC for its critically panned title Duke Nukem Forever. The DLC, named “Hail to the Icons Parody Pack,” will be available this fall and will be entirely multiplayer-focused.

The
pack will contain four new maps, four new weapons and three new modes.
The new maps are said to be evocative of legendary shooters such as Doom, and more modern hits like Call of Duty.  Freeze Tag, Hot Potato and free-for-all Hail to the King will feature as the game’s new modes.

GoldenEye Reloaded Announced

Activision announced that GoldenEye Reloaded will be coming to the PS3 and 360. The game is a full overhaul to the Wii GoldenEye,
and will feature a brand new game engine giving it an HD makeover. The
game will offer all that was in the Wii version, but on the PS3 version
it will retain the motion control option using the Move. It will also
include a new mode called “Mi6 Ops Missions” where you can replay
missions from the campaign under new requirements (i.e. Stealth,
Assault, Defense, and Elimination). As far as multiplayer goes, it will
offer up to 16-player online co-op, and the 4-player split screen (of
course).

Shadows of the Damned Review

Anyone that
has a significant interest in video games has no doubt heard of the minds
behind Shadows of the Damned. Shinji Mikami, Suda 51 and Akira Yamaoka have
been involved in some of the most influential games of all time throughout
their careers so it’s surprising that this game has just snuck up on everyone
the way it has. The reasons for that become clear upon jumping in, however. This
just isn’t a game that you can sell in the traditional manner; you simply have
to experience the utter craziness of Shadows of the Damned to really appreciate
it. That craziness is found in every aspect of the game
the characters,
weapons, enemies, art style
and feel like they’ve been ripped out of an “Evil
Dead” era horror movie that never got made.

“Recettear” Localization Team Announces New Project

Indie games from Japan don’t often make it to the states, but when they do, they tend to make a pretty big ripple. The most notable example of this was last year’s Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale, a game by Japanese developer EasyGameStation, localized by the studio Carpe Fulgur. It was definitely a success, selling approximately 140,000 copies, the number of which is still climbing. Carpe Fulgur recently announced the release date and issued a demo of their new project, Chantelise: A Tale of Two Sisters. It has apparently been in the works for a while, as that release date is this Friday, July 29th. While many will believe this to be a brand new game, it is actually the game made by EasyGameStation before Recettear.

Bring It Back: TimeSplitters

This edition of Bring It Back is a little different, as the
series in question actually does seem likely to return some time in the
future. Still, it hasn’t actually happened yet, and there’s no reason
not to remind people of what makes TimeSplitters fun and unique from
other shooters. Free Radical Design (now known simply as Crytek UK)
haven’t done a whole lot since their last TimeSplitters game, and a
return to what got them started might lead them to something inspired.
They did work on the multiplayer in Crysis 2, so they’ve shown
they can make a competent online gaming experience. But while that
series has done a nice job of blending in with the Call of Duty
school of super quick and precise shooters, what’s fun about
TimeSplitters is that it does its own thing. I’d love to see them bring
it to the current generation, sooner rather than later.

Humble Indie Bundle 3 Available Now

I’ll give a choice; you can donate a tiny sum of money to charity and get some indie games on the cheap at the same time, or you can donate a lot of money to charity and your reward shall be the knowledge that you’ve done good in the world… and you’ll still get a bunch of indie games cheap.  You can do either with the new installment of the Humble Indie Bundle.

Guild Wars 2 – A Social Experience

The developers of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet, held a panel at Comic-Con discussing how Guild Wars 2 is
being built to be a social game, and how this is the proper way to
build an MMO. The developers sitting on the panel were Colin Johanson,
Kekai Kotaki, Kristen Perry, Bobby Stein, and Leah Rivera.

Johanson
said that most MMOs being sold today have broken quest structures, the
main problem being that too many people are completing the exact same
objectives. Guild Wars 2 is less focused on this and the
developers are focusing instead on creating a more social experience. He
said, “It’s about coming together and building communities.”
