Weekend Sales Friday July 29th

Yesterday’s sales round-up covered many of the big digital sales going on this weekend, but there are always a few late comers who put up their sales on Friday.  Gog, Onlive and few others have snuck in a some very tempting sales for the weekend, plus a couple of daily deals.

Resistance 3 Beta Dated and Detailed

Early access
to Resistance 3‘s multiplayer beta will start August 4th, while PlayStation
Plus subscribers will be able to join August 23rd.

I’m not the biggest fan of
Resistance. I had minimal exposure to the first and second games so far but I’m somewhat interested in the upcoming third entry. The beta
will be starting next month and anyone with SOCOM 4 gets to play a good few
weeks earlier than PSN Plus subscribers. I’ve still yet to find a reason
to upgrade to Plus, not least because I spend a ton of money on this hobby
already so I probably won’t be participating myself.

No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise Demo and Region Confusion

Those of
you who live in some countries such as mine (Australia or the United Kingdom)
will no doubt find it a little odd that a few American game sites are talking
about No More Heroes
for PlayStation 3 as if it is a new thing, which weirdly it is for them. Allow me to
elaborate.

Speaking to a UK friend of mine
there is indeed a version of No
More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise
available on store shelves already in
our countries, and has been since April I believe. I’ve definitely
seen it here so I was initially confused as to why a few US sites were
reporting a demo for this game releasing on PlayStation network for the
upcoming release of a version of the game in their country with the same title.

Kinect Star Wars Screenshots

Microsoft has done little to justify buying a Kinect if you’re a hardcore gamer.  With games likeDisneyland Adventures, Zumba, and Pinkie Pie’s Pony Party, the target audience seems to be children and casual gamers (Okay I made that last one up, but don’t be surprised if My Little Pony Kinect shows up by Christmas). Kinect Star Wars seems like a legitimate attempt to appeal to the traditional gamer geek crowd, but screenshots released today conjure mixed feelings.

Weekend Sales Nazi Dinosaur Edition

What’s that you say?  “World War II has been done to death”.  Oh no, my friend, there is still territory left to explore in the Allies Versus Axis storyline.  Dinosaurs for example.  That’s right, there’s a great indie game that you can try for free this weekend which will let you play as a Nazi T-Rex with machine guns strapped to it’s face.  Aside from free Aryan Giant Lizards, there’re are many other games on sale this weekend, and a few of them even rival the awesomeness of Teutonic Thunder Lizards.

What To Expect From Space Pirates and Zombies

Indie games come in all shapes and sizes and an indie game that I particularly liked was 2009’sGratuitous Space Battles. The upcoming indie game Space Pirates and Zombies? is looking increasingly like a indie game to check out when it comes out later this year. The game is being developed by Minmax Games and looks to combine the gameplay fast paced fun of a top down shooter with the vast scope of old school space exploration games like Elite and after playing the demo, I can confirm it does this very well.
