Weekly New-Release Rundown

The day after Labor Day marks an enormous release date for the industry, with big name titles like Dead IslandWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine, and Driver: San Francisco all being released to this week.  As the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee soak the Northeast to its core, gamers in the region should be happy to have a great excuse to sit back and enjoy a new release or two this weekend.  In case you missed any of our coverage of the games released this week, here’s a short rundown of each.

Space Marine Review

While not perfect in and of itself, Warhammer 40,000: Space
Marine
is by far one of the best video game entries into the
twenty-four-year-old licensed property to date, bringing with it an
incredibly fun and
fan-service riddled campaign and some relatively standard but competent
multiplayer.


Relic has been making games set in the Warhammer 40k universe since the
original RTS title Dawn of War back in 2004, and it is very clear many games
later that they above all game studios truly understand the license. With
that said, up until now they have only made real-time strategy titles based on
Warhammer so I was incredibly skeptical of Space Marine’s quality, and in some
ways it definitely shows that Relic has made very few action titles before.

LittleBigPlanet 2.  First of all, and what makes the rest of the news
more appealing, LittleBigPlanet 2 is now $39.99.  In addition, an update

Guardian Heroes on Xbox Live this October

There
has been, in certain quarters of the gaming world, a frenetic buzz around the announcement
that classic action-RPG-brawler Guardian Heroes would be released
with shiny, updated HD graphics on Xbox Live Arcade since the story was
announced back in May.  The hype is
surely due to intensify with the news today that the game will be released on
October 12
th, for a mere 800 Microsoft points.
