After being unofficially announced
back in 2004, Rockstar has confirmed that Max
Payne 3 will release in March of next year. The game was originally
intended to release back in 2009, but numerous delays had gamers classifying it
as the next Duke Nukem Forever. The
previous installment in the franchise, Max
Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, was released eight years ago.
The
Warhammer and Warhammer 40K franchises have been around for longer than a lot
of people realise, and Warhammer 40K in particular really pioneered the idea of
gritty, dark science fiction with a medieval twist and the idea of the
“Space Marine”- a larger-than-life, armoured superhuman, equipped
with a gun bigger than most regular humans and a chainsword capable of ripping
through several layers of armor plating.
The War on Terror has been all the rage for the last two console generations, making Islamic extremists the go-to punching bags for military shooters. But even before 9/11, video games often put players up against terrorists. Let me start by saying that I’m a big fan of Ugly Americans the television show. I’ve seen every episode from both seasons, and I absolutely love its quirky and often dark humor. While the video game adaptation Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddoncertainly has some of what makes the show so enjoyable, the lack of polish takes away from the experience.
In the United States, visual novels are not exactly a common genre; the closest a popular series came to the genre for a long time was Capcom’s acclaimed Ace Attorney (Phoenix Wright). Nowadays, the closest to the visual novel genre is actually 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors by Chunsoft; it is much more in line with the visual novel genre than the Ace Attorney series, but Ace Attorney is more well known.
I
read a pretty appalling article on Gizmodo last week about an OkCupid
match gone wrong… it sparked a little fire in my blood… my simple plea today is this: gamers and non-gamers
alike, please stop judging people based solely on the games they play.
Sony
has tried to push a lot of products on us these days. There’s been
3DTVs, motion controllers like the Move/Sixaxis, and UMDs. With the
exception of Blu-ray, Sony has yet to really sell their ideas. As much
as they try it seems they can’t grab the majority for one reason or
another. However, one interesting idea to come out of Sony might
actually be going somewhere.
