Final Fantasy XIII-2: Special Edition Details Revealed

The direct sequel to the
beautiful but somewhat flawed Final
Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2
doesn’t follow in particularly
auspicious footsteps- the only other direct sequel in the Final Fantasy
franchise was Final Fantasy X-2, which
despite being a hardcore Final Fantasy fan, I found pretty bad.  Nevertheless, Square-Enix have revealed some
information about the special editions of the upcoming game, including what
extra goodies will be included with the game itself.

Probable End of Year Release for Torchlight 2

Speculation has run rampant about the sequel to budget ARPG Torchlight, Torchlight 2, created by developer Runic Games. Many have stated that Runic needs to pre-empt the Diablo 3 release if they want to see good initial sales of their own game. The following news may provide a good idea for the date.

Well, Runic has updated its FAQ section with new information with regard to a potential release. It states that Torchlight 2 will be available to gamers in either November or December of this year. This can be considered a de facto release date due to the hyperbolic statement Runic chose to add. They say the game will be released in this timeframe unless “someone on the team dies.”

Dead Rising 2 Off the Record Review

Off the Record is an example of something that you really don’t see a whole lot of in the world of game releases, in a nut shell this is a tweaked version of last year’s Dead Rising 2. While that game did offer fans more of what they wanted from a sequel, it also came with everything you didn’t like about the first game as well as some problems of its own. Off the Record seems to be an attempt at addressing those flaws, and reintroducing Frank West as the protagonist this time to try and claw back in anyone that didn’t warm to Chuck Green for whatever reason. In many ways, Off the Record is successful in removing a lot of the flaws that this franchise has become known for, but it also brings into realisation what is still lacking from the game after so many iterations.

Digital High Episode 13

Vince is back to his usual self with not liking stuff this week. There is also a mention of a rather questionable new feature, but more on that later. In this episode, Donna and Vince cover the week’s news and trailers, the biggest among them perhaps being the lengthy demo for the new Hitman game. Also on this week’s show, Red Dead will not find its way to the PC unfortunately, Batman: Arkham City has some DLC confirmed (because what game doesn’t) and some brief thoughts on the changes coming to Gears 3.

In the form of announcements this week, we will be taking user questions. Yes, that means you! So get in touch either via Twitter, Facebook or just post your question here in the comments. As always, you can catch up on all the episodes on our official podcast page http://playeraffinity.com/podcast.html

What is Torchlight 2

Torchlight 2 is the sequel to a successful entry into the ARPG market epitomized by the Diablo series from Blizzard. However, being an indie-level developer (the Runic Games development teams has only 30 members), Runic managed to carve out a niche for its game by giving it a budget price.  Torchlight 2 takes the original Torchlight and improves upon its winning formula. You will be able to purchase the game for $19.99, a far cry from the $49.99 or $59.99 commanded by the supposed premium games.

Star Wars The Old Republic – Hands on Preview

Release dates have been finalized, collectors Editions announced, and the game which has the best chance of taking down World of Warcraft is just two months away.  Star Wars The Old Republic is a new venture for Bioware, being their first full MMO game, and an attempt to merge massively-multiplayer game mechanics with Bioware’s signature story-telling method of extensive player choice.  After a little hands-on with the PVE game at the New York Comic Con, our correspondent has some ideas about what gamers can look forward to.
