Dystopian Burlesque – Review

There are two things I like.  Naked women and Fallout.  I had been aware of the D20 Burlesque show for some time; they do monthly performances where attractive women strip out of nerdy outfits, and this month their theme was “Dystopia”, complete with a piece based on the post-apocalyptic dystopian game Fallout.  With my “Pip boy” grasped firmly, I attended the show over the weekend.

Max Payne 3 Delayed Until Rockstar’s Favorite Month (May)

In a move that is both disappointing and also a bit puzzling, Max Payne 3 has been delayed until May 15th (in North America) and May 18th (in Europe). The original release date for what is looking to be one of Rockstar’s huge releases was March 6th, and with the announcement only coming a few days ago, it makes me wonder why they decided to go with the extra delay. One thing to note is that it will be releasing on almost exactly the same day as LA Noire was released in 2010 and Red Dead Redemption was released in 2009.

Now there are two main theories that I have as to why there is such a delay. One is that they have a history of releasing very critically strong games in May, and they may just feel safer with it coming out at that time (also, there is really nothing that comes out in May, which gives them the opportunity to sell a lot more copies for people looking for games). The other, much more unlikely, theory that I have is that it was delayed so that later in the year, they can give either much more news or a solid release date for GTA V. With the added knowledge that they pretty much own May, they could announce a May 2013 release for GTA V (keep in mind, this is purely speculation). With only 2 months until release, what games will you be looking to hold your time until the release of Max Payne 3?

Deadlight will be released this summer, but pricing has not been released.

Was The Reckoning Demo A Turnoff For The Full Game?

The demo of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning begins by letting you see the death of your character. Luckily, you are the first person ever to be revived in the Well of Souls and thus Kingdoms sets up both a tale of vengeance and gives your character a clean slate.  When the Well resurrected you, the weave of fate left you without a destiny which creates a dynamic where the protaginist of Kingdoms is the only one in the world who can carve out their own destiny. This plays a role in the class system as, at regular intervals, you can swap your “fate card” in order to have a certain class such as rogue, warrior, or mage.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City – Preview

Repetition in videogame sequels is naughty. It can lead to boredom and has the potential to ruin aspiring titles and our wallets by displaying a clear disregard for innovation. While Resident Evil 4 completely reinvented the series, Resident Evil 5 seemed to be pretty much the same game with the exception of certain enemies who appear to have been injected with a vast quantity of class A’s rather than Las Plagas. This left many gamers questioning whether the series might turn into the monotonous drag of “Same game, different characters”.  So how have Capcom answered these worries? They’re pushing down the trigger on their recliner couches and putting their feet up, handing development of the next title to Slant Six Games. Operation Raccoon City is not Resident Evil 6, but rather a new installment in the series.
