Nexuiz Preview

If you’ve played Quake before, you might already be familiar with Nexuiz: a fast-pased arena FPS. Released in 2005 by developer Alientrap, and receiving significant updates through 2009, Nexuiz features some pretty impressive graphics. The game runs on a modified Quake engine known as DarkPlaces, allowing for dynamic lighting and shadowing. In this day and age when cover-based shooting and regenerating health reigns supreme,Nexuiz keeps you on your toes — there are no safe places to hide, and you must find health packs on your own.

Hands on preview with Mass Effect 3

So, my friends and compatriots, Mass Effect 3 is less than a month away, and not too long ago, the demo dropped for the Playstation 3 version.  Up until this point, there was a game that you could play on the Mass Effect website that would allow you to download the Xbox demo, but now that it has hit console wide, I thought that I would give my impressions on what I thought of each of the parts, and then some general thoughts.

The demo itself is broken into two main parts, which I found to offer two pretty differing moods, yet each of these moods seemed to have a unique enough feel as to where they were each amazing pieces of a product that will be very entertaining.  For the first part of the demo, it opens up with Commander Shepard on Earth, as you are quickly thrust into a heated talk with a very councilesque Earth Alliance.  Without ruining too much, things quickly start to spiral out of control, and you are thrust into a pretty engaging conflict.  One thing I noticed in the demo was that there were a few spots where the frame rate dropped a little, but these did not seem to deter the gameplay.  The last scene of this first part had a heavy Gears of War vibe to it, which really got me interested for the second part.

Hands-On With Yesterday

Adventure Games have a tough time in the modern market.  With their emphasis on story-telling, intellectual challenge and tried & true mechanics, the genre is a hard sell for audiences that continually seek better graphics, online multiplayer and “The same, but MORE” gameplay.  Still, there are several prominent developers who specialize in this genre, among them is Pendulo Studios .  With series like Runaway, and last year’s The Next BIG Thing to their credits, they are known for light-hearted projects, but their upcoming game Yesterday is taking the series in a new direction.  A creepy direction.  Player Affinity got the chance to try out a few chapters of the new project and explored the beginning of this dark storyline.

Dragon Age Redemption DVD Review

“Felicia Day in Dragon Age blah blah blah blah”.  That’s what many people will see when they look at the cover of this DVD.  The cute redhead from The Guild?  In a live-action Dragon Age movie?  That’s enough to sell this DVD to plenty of consumers.  But what about all the other people who might enjoy this compilation of the swords & sorcery webseries?  Is there enough justification on the disk to warrant the purchase of something that can be seen on the internet for free?

Voice Actor for Fallout: New Vegas, passes away

Fans of Fallout: New Vegas will be upset to hear that David Anthony Pizzuto, who voiced Super Mutant ‘Lily Bowen’, has sadly passed away. Lily was a vibrant and vivid character, beautifully captured with David’s charismatic voice. His death will be another sad loss to Bethesda who also lost their concept artist, Adam Adamowicz, just last week.

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Goes Live a Day Early

Bioware announced today on Twitter that the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo, which became available on Tuesday, is now open to everyone.  The cooperative multiplyer access was originally scheduled to go public on Friday (2/17), but with all the positive feedback they’ve been getting it’s not surprising they decided to make it available to all a day early.
