Next Gears of War 3 DLC Slated for March 27

Video games have come a long way from the days of forcing your change into a Donkey Kong machine at your local arcade or bar. Modern day visuals in games are making things more realistic than ever, allowing developers to get their wildest ideas on screen. Doom 4 is Not Canceled

Bethesda Softworks PR and Marketing VP Pete Hines responded to rumors about Doom 4’s supposed cancellation by telling Joystiq, “When we’re ready to talk about it and show it off, we’ll let everyone know.” A batch of screenshots was leaked on AllGamesBeta which supposedly were from the “cancelled” Doom 4. However, id Software design director Matthew Hooper stated that the “Those images have nothing to do with what you’re gonna see in Doom 4.”

Villain Affinity The Reapers

Commander Shepard returns this week to finally thwart The Reapers and their attempt to destroy civilization.  While Shepard is both a Paragon of humanity’s virtues, and a Renegade who gets the job done no matter what it takes, sometimes I wonder if maybe – just maybe – those villainous Reapers might actually be right.  Perhaps the galaxy would be better off if the heroes of Mass Effect just stayed home and left the Reapers alone.

Study shows ‘problematic’ relationship between video games and religion

A study at the University of Missouri examined the relationships between video games and religion. Doctoral student Greg Perreault looked at five modern games:  Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Assassin’s Creed, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. He looked at the treatment of religion in these games and concluded that video games present religion in a “problematized” way.
