Ubisoft Announces Assassin’s Creed IV: Freedom Cry Independent Release
Initially released as downloadable content for
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft announced today that the
Freedom Cry storyline from the latest
Assassin's Creed title will be available as a stand-alone adventure.
Available first for Playstation 4 and Playstation 3 on February 17th, two months after it's release as additional content; the advertised exclusive stand-alone client will also be available to PC gamers on February 25th, leaving Xbox users the odd ones out.
Following the later adventures of Adewale, Edward Kenway's first mate from
Assassin's Creed IV,
Freedom Cry finds the player in the boots of a former slave shipwrecked and washed ashore on the western coast of the Caribbean island Hispaniola; the French colony of Saint-Dominque. Eventually reaching the capital city of Port-au-Prince, Adewale aides the local slaves in their daily plight eventually recruiting a crew and obtaining a brig, the
Experto Crede upon which he and his crew wreck havoc among the slave trading vessels of the Caribbean.
Though now official weapons of the
Assassin's Creed series;
Freedom Cry equips the once slave, former pirate, and latest member of the series' assassins' order with a massive machete to fit the character's overwhelming size and stature along with an ornately crafted blunderbuss.
