After last week’s fast-moving and fire-filled outing, this Sunday finds many of the Game of Thrones characters looking to the past as the show reaches the halfway point of season three. The central theme of “Kissed by Fire” is how the past shapes the future, with multiple characters mulling the past actions and inactions that have brought them to where they are today.
Ron and Leslie butt heads over closing the public putt-putt course, and Tom tries to break up with his girlfriend.
The employees of Dunder Mifflin participate in a paper airplane contest that reveals uncomfortable truths. Meanwhile, Andy gets an acting job, and Pam and Jim use strategies learned in marriage counseling.
Hannibal’s fifth episode offered another gory serial killer to go with fabulous acting from the show’s main cast. Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Mads Mikkelsen, and guest star Gina Torres all gave excellent performances that elevated the episode above the typical fare of a murder procedural.
Written by Jim Rash (Dean Pelton), the latest episode of Community returned to form this week after a less than stellar season. Troy and Abed “switched” bodies, allowing for a final resolution to the Britta-Troy relationship, while Dean Pelton was finally able to “get inside” Jeff with his own body switch.
“The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” introduces us to a new territory in the world of Revolution. Miles continues to sruggle with his past as he attepmts to thwart Monroe’s nuclear plans. Rachel and Aaron continue on their trek to ‘the tower’ as we gain more insight about the elusive nanites. Elizabeth Mitchell and Billy Burke give good performance despite the weak material.
Jackie and Kevin are in a fierce battle for custody of their two daughters. There is drama at the hospital when a patient is misdiagnosed and accused of looking for an easy way to obtain medication when in fact she actually has a deadly infection. We also learn more about the two new doctors that were introduced in the season premiere.
“To Have and to Hold” makes a great impact on this season as an exceptionally rich episode that finally features Joan after three episodes of virtual nonexistence. The episode explores the business going on in the agency as well, and delivers some insight into the personal lives of some of the characters like Joan, Dawn and Don. The rich narrative makes it the most entertaining episode of Mad Men’s season six to date.
Game of Thrones is on fire with its fourth episode of its third season. Daenerys proves she is more that a weak young girl, Sam finally takes a step toward becoming his own man, and Varys begins to scheme to save Sansa Stark from the clutches of Littlefinger. But all is not well in Westeros, nor beyond the Wall, as some characters meet death head-on, and Theon once again returns to prison.
Leslie forgets Jerry’s retirement so she tries to make it up to him. Meanwhile, Chris and Ann finally get started on their baby making plan.
