The sixth season of AMC’s Mad Men comes to an end with an absolutely poignant and successful episode. Don Draper can no longer run from his many problems and the agency faces an uncertain and exciting future.
Selina goes back and forth about whether to run for President in two years as POTUS continues the same ruminations, causing confusion on both ends. Selina is freaking out like crazy, not knowing what to do, while audiences eventually see POTUS officially decide to back out. Selina tells the good news to her staff and we are left on a positive note to end the season.
HBO’s True Blood bounced back after a weak premiere, setting up what looks to be a strong sixth season. Anna Paquin’s Sookie Stackhouse will be searching for her family’s killer, Stephen Moyer’s Bill is still trying to figure out why he is now Billith, and Alexander Skarsgård’s Eric has hatched a plan to get back at the governor of Louisiana.
Linden and Holder follow a lead about an injured girl that may be Kallie, and Bullet aids in the search. Danette becomes concerned about her missing daughter and the possible culpability of boyfriend Joe. Seward and Alton cement their friendship when Alton confesses his crimes.
NBC’s Hannibal ends its first season with a satisfying finale that sees Will Graham finally discover Hannibal Lector’s murderous tendencies, albeit not his Chesapeake Ripper actions. With a particularly strong finale, complete with Jack Crawford losing faith in Will, and strong performances from Madds Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, Hannibal finishes its freshman season on a high note.
Vice President Selina Meyer walks through a glass door in a fitting metaphor given the way in which her career has been going lately. This prevents her from going to the donor meeting she was slated to attend. A whistle-blower in the State Department is discovered, causing great drama for her and the President.
The penultimate episode of Mad Men‘s season six rachets up the tension, promising a high-quality season finale. Conflicts arise among the employees of SC&P and significant shifts in the business are felt. Strong, work-based narratives support a lacking off-work storyline.
HBO’s True Blood kicks off the season with copious blood, nudity, and sex, but very little plot development. Bill Compton appears to be possessed by the spirit of Lilith (creating Billith), while Sookie Stackhouse tries once again to return to her normal life. We also meet a vampire who appears to be Warlow, who allegedly killed Jason and Sookie’s parents.
Jackie reaches the milestone one year’s sobriety and has a celebration that is attended by her whole family and everyone she knows. She and Kevin are on good terms, while her relationship with Frank seems to be improving as well. Dr. Roman is almost released from the hospital but pulls a trick and avoids it.
