HBO’s True Blood missed the mark with its sixth episode, “Fuck the Pain Away.” A mess of disconnected storylines saw Billith take control of Warlow, Sookie attacked by a possessed Lafayette, and Jessica, Pam, Tara, and Eric captured and taken to Vampire Camp. While the storylines remained largely static, there were some bright spots amid the chaos, but the episode was largely a disappointment.
Linden finds herself trapped with a crazy person, Holder and Bullet have a falling out, Seward protests his innocence, and Bullet makes a poor decision with devastating consequences.
Ray has serious drama with two different actors in this episode. Sean, who we find out was involved with his dad being sent to prison, has trouble with his father and one of his brothers, while another actor is being blackmailed by a transvestite with a videotape. Mickey also goes out with the family for the day, angering Ray, who threatens Mickey’s life.
Showtime has greenlit a new documentary that will follow comedian Tig Notaro on her upcoming comedy tour. This will be no standard comedy tour, however, since Tig will be performing her comedy on a variety of fan’s homes. Fans of the comedian can apply to become a part of the project and potentially host one of the performances.
The second episode of Dexter’s final season delivers seriously engaging drama and narrative. Dexter’s relationship with Dr. Vogel deepens and with that comes some startling information about Dexter’s serial killer grooming and upbringing. Jennifer Carpenter continues to deliver a fantastic performance as troubled Deb in the Showtime drama.
HBO’s True Blood finally revealed the identity of the dangerous Warlow, and it turns out it was the charming faerie drifter Ben. Sookie staged an attack on the half fae/half vampire Warlow, but not before Warlow sent Niall to another dimension, leaving Sookie and Jason vulnerable. Eric turned Ella Burrell into a vampire, while Billith learned it would be incredibly hard to synthesize faerie blood – especially now that Jessica has drained the four halflings.
Linden and Holder pursue a new suspect, Pastor Mike, Ray Seward confronts his own mortality, Bullet and Lyric grow closer, and one of the homeless teens is in serious danger.
Dexter is back for its final outing. The season eight premiere of the Showtime drama is a strong introduction to the show’s final season. It’s been six months since the shocking events of the seventh season finale and much has changed for Dexter Morgan and the rest of the gang at Miami Metro.
In the pilot, audiences are introduced to a whole new type of character in Ray Donovan. Ray is a “fixer” for the rich and famous in Los Angeles and has recently relocated his family from Boston. His father has just been released from prison, and his family issues seem to trouble him more than anything.
HBO’s True Blood brings back some familiar faces in the form of Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) and Ginger (Tara Buck), and advances the storyline in the season’s third episode “You’re No Good.” Warlow has killed the faeries in the faerie club, Eric has kidnapped the governor’s daughter, and Billith has concocted a plan that will allow vampires to walk in the sun – all he needs is the blood of Andy’s daughters.
