In its traditional self-contained and quirky episode of the season, Fringe took us to 2036, a future where Observers rule the world and the Fringe Division is merely a police force for surviving humans known as Natives. “Letters of Transit” introduces Etta, a young Fringe agent who, for reasons of her own, is searching for the original Fringe team.
“What Is Dead May Never Die” saw, for the first time this season, Game of Thrones really using the profusion of characters to its advantage. In this week’s episode, whether we dreamed with Bran Stark, enjoyed the intrigues at King’s Landing or witnessed the real homecoming of Theon Greyjoy, everything seemed to flow naturally and to push us further in the game of thrones.
“The Consultant” saw Walter crossing over to the Other Side for the first time and had a case featuring the collaboration between the universes in real time as never before. Interestingly, the story also seemed to show how the wheels of “Destiny” can be implacable, no matter the timeline.
After the first season and the many events that arguably looked more like preparatory steps, the new season premiere of Game of Thrones felt like a positioning of the pieces. It paved the way for “The Night Lands,” an episode in which the game of thrones seems to have truly begun. Whether it was Daenerys Targaryen receiving a message from a rival Dothraki Khal, or Tyrion making his way into the politics of King’s Landing, or even Theon Greyjoy’s trip to the Iron Islands, the episode seemed to show the first open moves toward the clash of kings.
“Everything In Its Right Place” was a rare non-cryptic title for an episode of Fringe about Agent Lincoln Lee defining his place in the world, something that was ultimately made possible because of the death of Captain Lee (alt-Lincoln), an event that struck Fauxlivia, but also opened a new door for her.
It’s evaluation time! The TGS crew are reflecting on their hard work, their dreams for the future and their plans to better themselves. 30 Rock delivers an episode that felt like old times. No worries, no over-the-top stories, not even a big guest star returning, just good old fun.
While Harmon and Chase are fighting it out backstage, Troy and Abed are fighting onscreen. The golden duo split up last week, forming two different camps in the school. Their feud reaches its climax this week. The episode “Pillows and Blankets” is filmed in documentary style mocking the way Discovery Channel and National Geographic reconstruct battles. Unfortunately, the joke runs out quickly and the episode is a futile attempt to compete with “Modern Warfare.”
“The North Remembers,” the second season premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones, was not so much about the North or Northerners as it was about the realization that the kingdom—more than that—the entire world of Westeros was whirling toward an internal strife, toward “A Clash of Kings.”
Goodbye Gallaghers! What a terrific ending to a wonderful season. Season finales always give a sense of closure and comfort and, while this episode did not disappoint in that sense, it also felt like it was just a stepping stone to the many other adventures we’re going to witness. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves and reflect on the awesomeness that was this week’s Shameless.
There are a few shows that know what the word “finale” really means, and Spartacus is certainly one of those shows. In the season finale that was basically a climax after climax, everything came to a head. It really was the moment the show has been working toward for two seasons. And it all started with a confrontation at the mountain.
