PBS Announces First Ever Televised TED Talk

Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 70th Golden Globes Awards ceremony (and dinner) took place yesterday with a TV scorecard significantly tilted toward pay TV channels. HBO and Showtime dominated the evening on the TV-side with five and four awards respectively.
We first learned of the acquisition in August 2012, and finally tonight, the Canadian hit sci-fi drama Continuum will premiere on Syfy at 8 p.m., ushering in the programming block dubbed “Powerful Mondays” by the channel. The block of original programming also includes Being Human at 9 p.m. and another Canadian import Lost Girl at 10 p.m..

While Universal Pictures stayed the course and stuck with tradition by extending its domestic output deal with HBO, Deadline Hollywood reports that Warner Bros. went with the new wave and against its recent frosty relationship with Netflix by licensing complete previous seasons of eight drama series to the streaming giant. The series include Revolution, Political Animals, Longmire, 666 Park Avenue, The Following, Chuck, Fringe and The West Wing.
The Television Critics Association (TCA) press started last Friday and is slated to feature a number of returning shows (not only new ones) like NBC’s Revolution. The series’ panel made news in more ways than one as questions lingered on other J.J. Abrams’s works.
Starz will be spinning off into an independent public network. In addition, Disney will be ending its contract with Starz.
