‘Thor 2’ Casts ‘Lost’s’ Mr. Eko as Algrim the Strong
With
Thor: The Dark World on the precipice of filming under director
Alan Taylor, Marvel Studios is tying up all the casting loose ends, though this one is particularly interesting:
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast as Algrim the Strong, a Dark Elf of Svartalfheim who works for Malekith the Accursed, the new main villain to be played by
Christopher Eccleston.
Aknnuoye-Agbaje joins returning cast member Kat Dennings as the
other casting announcement of this week. The actor will be forever known to
Lost fans as Mr. Eko, but he also appeared in
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra as Heavy Duty and
The Bourne Identity as Nykwanna Wombosi. He'll next be seen in Sylvester Stallone's next action film,
Bullet to the Head.
In the comics, Algrim is part of Malekith's plan to ambush Thor, but he's ultimately used by Malekith. The betrayal resulted in an accident that wiped out Algrim's memory and left him wanting revenge against Thor instead. He takes up the mantle of Kurse and seeks to destroy Thor on Earth but ultimately comes to realize Malekith should be the target of his rage.
The Hollywood Reporter suggests that such a redemption will be seen in this film.
Thor: The Dark World arrives on November 8, 2013.
