It’s Always Sunny – Mac Fights Gay Marriage

Sunny has an amazing habit of constantly getting better and batter. The first season was great and then in the second they brought on Danny Devito, embellished the character to make them little more than caricatures, and put the gang in the most ridiculous situations which only made the subsequent season’s and episodes better. This week’s season premier Mac Fights Gay Marriage is a bit of a letdown. After an amazing patch of episodes in season 5…well minus the Who Pooped the Bed, this episode seems both phoned in and, with a few exceptions, just not very funny.

Covert Affairs – I Can’t Quit You Baby and When The Levee

With the first season of Covert Affairs drawing to a close, the two episode Finale should have caped off the loose ends, or at least given direction to where they were going. While it is hard to look at these episodes as anything more than a near miss, just like the whole season, you can see what they are trying to do. Even though it was billed as the two hour finale it really wasn’t. We got two almost completely unrelated episodes, except for a few holdover plotlines and there is no indication of how much time has elapsed between the two hours.

Mad Men – The Summer Man

She’s always been one of the most popular characters on Mad Men, but for most of the show’s run Joan Harris has also been one we’ve known the least about.  She sashays through the office, ruler of all she sees, regardless of whatever her job title says.  However, the brief views we’ve seen of her private life show us a woman unable to exert that same level of control outside the office.  She has what appears to others to be a dream life; married to a handsome doctor, but in reality she’s stuck with a man who once raped her in the very place she goes to work every day.

True Blood – Evil is Going On (Season Finale)

The conclusion to True Blood’s third season contains a slew of grisly casualties, but the real victim is the finale itself. After an over ambitious narrative that has meandered in multiple directions, there is not time to wrap up loose ends and the final episode plays out like a teaser to next season, with only flashes of excitement.

An Abrams and Nolan Collaboration in the Works

Word has it that J.J. Abrams is pitching around a crime-thriller series created by Jonah Nolan (yeah, the Inception director’s baby brother). His collaboration with Abrams will be the penman’s first foray into the small-screen.

Eureka – I’ll Be Seeing You

I’ll Be Seeing You is a mid season finale that acts to tie off loose threads before the hiatus. Carter and Allison have finally sealed the proverbial deal and Dr Grant is now involved in a seemingly global conspiracy that he appears to have founded in the 1940’s. Unfortunately the time travelling plot feels like a retread and although there are some undoubtedly significant events, their resolution is ultimately predictable and the story, convoluted.

Terriers – Pilot Review

Some new shows take a while to draw you in, but others can do so in the very first episode. Terriers is in the latter category. The characters are quickly developed to the point that you care about them, and in the pilot episode they tell a story that is both entertaining and oddly emotional at times. Even with only having seen the first episode I can safely say that I do want to know more about Hank and Britt. While the episode, and I guess the show thus far isn’t without its problems, it does far more right than wrong.
