The Office – WUPHF.com

The Office has been on a roll with cold opens lately, and last night’s was another good one. It was pretty basic humor, but that’s all these bits needed, and it worked. The power goes out, and after Dwight seems way too eager to assume the world’s coming to an end and they’ll eventually need to resort to cannibalism, it comes back, but the company server is down. They can’t remember the password, but Michael shows the way he remembers people by recalling past IT guys, and they figure out it involves Pam’s body and a Z in the spelling. We laugh, and then the credits play.

Modern Family-Manny Get Your Gun

After a week off Modern Family returned and it is Manny’s birthday. The episode starts with the entire family at dinner and Manny giving a speech. We then flash back to show how our character got the restaurant and once again the show does an amazing job of showing three different storylines and then wrapping them all up together.

Top 5 Episodes of South Park

With South Park just completing its impressive 14th season, it now seems like a good time to look back and show the top 5 episodes so far. I remember watching the first episode, Cartman Gets and Anal Probe when I was eight years old. Yeah, I know I was way too young for the show, but it was a cartoon and it was the first of its kind. Except for The Simpsons, no cartoon has left such an impact on television and has remained relevant this long. South Park is at times: shocking, classless, thought provoking, and senseless, but all the while entertaining and funny. Like always, this is a personal list but I tried to take the South Park community picks into account. Here are the Top 5 Episodes of South Park….so far.

Weeds – Theoretical Love is Not Dead

I know I’ve often complained about the purpose and direction of this season of Weeds in these recaps, but I have to admit in the end that it turned out to be a good one, definitely the show’s best since it left Agrestic. I still enjoyed the last couple seasons that focused on Mexico even when others were abandoning it, so I think my frustrations were mostly based on the sheer amount of the show that exists to this point. Six seasons is a pretty long time, and my expectations are a lot higher than for other comedies because it’s so story driven and was so great early on. But in the end they really did a pretty good job giving the show a new sense of vigor, and while I still don’t really know what the endgame is going to be, they showed that they’re still capable of surprising me every step of the way.

The Walking Dead – Tell It to the Frogs

Before I get into the review, I’ll give a little context. I read The Walking Dead comic that this show is based on, and I like it. I’m not actually caught up with where it is right now, but I’m certainly well ahead of how far they’re going to get in this brief, six-episode-long season. Of course, the question is how relevant that knowledge I have will actually be, since Frank Darabont and his crew have clearly shown that they’re willing and even eager to make changes the book’s story and go in new directions.

Supernatural – All Dogs Go to Heaven

Even though this week’s episode, All Dogs Go to Heaven, doesn’t advance the plot very far, it is an entertaining episode. This is the first assignment Crowley sends the brothers on. I have been a Dean defender, since he’s acted fairly reasonably to the strange circumstances he has found himself in this season. However, there are a few small parts in this episode where he is being a bit whiney and borderline emo. His “I can’t trust you Sam, you’re not my brother” routine is becoming repetitive and irritating. Of course, it’s natural for him to be worried about his brother and not be completely trusting of a guy with no soul, but he almost says the exact same line of dialogue every time to convey his distrust in him. This is a writing problem, since the two leads are pretty much always on top of their game.
