Dexter To Make a Return

Showtime has officially announced that Dexter will return next season. The show is coming off its most successful and critically acclaimed season last year, and another strong season made this an easy decision. Mr. Morgan slices his way back next fall.

Modern Family – Mother Tucker

I believe this is the first time we have seen a member of Cam’s family. His mom comes to visit him and Mitchell and the results are a bit underwhelming. Throughout the show’s run we have heard about Cam’s rural family and how Mitchell usually mocks it. I kind of expected more from this storyline… all we were given is inappropriate touching. Yeah, that sounds interesting but it just comes off as weird. Not weird as in uncomfortable, but weird as in a weak storyline. The bath scene is pretty funny and ultimately their relationship is stronger because of it. It was also interesting to see how supportive and accepting Cam’s mother was of their relationship. We have to wonder about how she took it when they first met and to me that’s the part we should have been shown.

The Walking Dead – Wildfire

The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead’s first season was the best since the premiere, having no significant issues with the story or characters like those that plagued the last few, and moving the plot along in an exciting way. I’ve noted before how the creators are clearly willing to change the details while keeping the comic’s general outline and some of its more memorable moments, and that’s plenty clear here with a development that shows how much the series is forging its own path.

The Walking Dead – Vatos

After last week’s episode of The Walking Dead seemed to have some logical gaps, it returned last night and mostly righted the ship, making sure to answer those questions and push the story forward a bit quicker than it was going before. The script was actually written by Robert Kirkman, the guy who writes the comic book, and it was interesting how he handled the opportunity. Instead of bringing the story closer to how he made it or even just keep it where it was, he actually added even more new stuff that we hadn’t seen before, proving that the show is concerned with creating its own identity as much as if not more than sticking to the source material. The end of the episode definitely came straight from the books, but we know now that they’re a guide rather than a bible.

Supernatural – Clap Your Hands If You Believe…

This week’s Supernatural takes a break from heaven’s civil war and monsters rallying for battle to take a comedic viewpoint on alien abductions. This new outing also brings a spiffy X-Files inspired intro.  This week’s Supernatural takes a break from heaven’s civil war and monsters rallying for battle to take a comedic viewpoint on alien abductions. This new outing also brings a spiffy X-Files inspired intro. The show has always seemed to take some inspiration from X-Files and this is probably their most direct reference yet. There hasn’t been much comedy this season due to the mysterious and dark nature of it, so this episode was a welcomed change. Going from one of your main characters not having a soul to an episode that’s supposed to be funny isn’t an easy task, but Sam not hiding his now heartless nature does lead to some laughs.

Fringe – The Abducted

The latest episode of Fringe, The Abducted, brings the show back to full force. After last week’s episode, which was this season’s worst one so far, I’m glad to see the show got back into rhythm quickly; the contrasts between the last two episodes shows why Fringe has had more improvement than any other show in the last six or seven years.

30 Rock- College

This week’s 30 Rock returned its focus to the backstage shenanigans at TGS, and spent more time following Liz as she plays den mother to her writers, cast and crew.  The theme to this episode is “College”, and most of the cast tries to relive their college days in some way or another.  While this theme works for Liz’s storyline, it doesn’t quite hold up for Jack, and the rest of the cast.
