More Zombies on TV Next Year?

If you were among the 7.26 million viewers who tuned into AMC to watch the season premiere of The Walking Dead
on October 16, you may have one more reason to rejoice or lament. Your
attraction to that particular brand of the undead (as opposed to
vampires for example) might be even more satisfied come fall 2012.

Terra Nova – The Runaway

“The Runaway” had very good moments and tried as much as it could to capitalize on some of the elements that have contributed to Terra Nova‘s success so far, but it was also undoubtedly the weakest episode of the series to date.

One could say Terra Nova is Falling Skies done better. Not that aliens are comparable to dinosaurs or other prehistoric species, but the Fox series has been much more successful than its TNT brethren at reaching a fundamental goal they both share: being first and foremost the story of a family in a somewhat chaotic and arguably futuristic setting. Never mind that in Terra Nova, the future is actually moved 85 million years back in time. Chief among the reasons for that success is the cast. The family in Terra Nova is much more believable and the supporting cast is in some cases even better. In this episode, the interactions between the Shannons and the runaway Leah Marcos (played by Morgana Davies), were the best part of the hour.

‘Chuck’ Co-creator Adapting the UK’s ‘Misfits’

America may soon be getting it’s own
version of young punks with superpowers. Vulture reported that Josh
Schwartz(Chuck) will be teaming up with the creator of the original
UK series, Howard Overman, to pen a US adaption of Misfits.
No deal with a network has been made as of yet, and the pair plan to
complete a pilot script before taking it shopping. This unusual move
will allow them to avoid the creative input of networks that
typically come after presenting just a pitch.

Misfits is centered on a group
of young offenders assigned to community service, who find themselves
imbued with superhuman abilities after being caught in a freak
lightning storm. The sci-fi dramedy has already found some fans on
this side of the pond, thanks to Hulu featuring the episodes, and the
critical response has been equally positive.

TV Characters You Would Want Watching Your Back In a Zombie Wasteland

With the return of The Walking Dead,
I can’t help but think of which characters from television I would
want to be teamed up with when that inevitable zombie apocalypse
occurs. Rick Grimes and his ragtag band may have made it this far,
but there is definitely room for improvement within those ranks.
Lets face it, the “Walkers” themselves would make better
companions than most of the dregs with which Rick is stuck. So
presented here are TV’s last best hope of survival, and the only
characters I would trust to keep the undead masses at bay.

How I Met Your Mother – Mystery vs. History

The character carousel stepped aside this week for the sixth episode of How I Met Your Mother Season 7. “Mystery vs. History” packed in laughs, character psychoanalysis and social commentary to boot, not to mention the first “breaking of the fourth wall.”

Why The Original Trek Timeline Must Continue

When the planet Vulcan imploded in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek movie, an “alternate timeline” was created, and the world of Trek fandom was split in two. At first we were promised that this new timeline would not invalidate all of our favorite stories from the original canon. But some time has passed, and there has been no word on a continuation of that original timeline in the form of a new series set after Star Trek: Voyager.

The new Trekmovie is currently being filmed, which will continue the re-written alternate timeline. Without focusing on that movie too much, there is now the possibility that J.J.’s re-imagining of the universe could very well be the death of the original timeline entirely. The“alternate timeline” could become the new official canon, given enough time.

Person of Interest – Cura Te Ipsum

It looked like Person of Interest would be content to roll itself out as a case-of-the-week thriller with a twist, but “Cura Te Ipsum” was an absolute game-changer that rewarded those who have stuck with Jonathan Nolan’s new show through month number one.
