Falling Skies – Young Bloods

“Young Bloods” reunited Captain Weaver with his teenage daughter, and featured storylines centered on teenagers and children. In addition to the return of the lost daughter, a lot happened involving the age group. We had a kid soldier, a brewing and clumsy first (or maybe second) love, brotherly relationships, a teenage confrontation with the sense of loss, and even teenage reckless decision-making and search for independence. Some of the stories featured the show’s trademark ability to touch us emotionally, some were lacking in their execution, but they all only used adults by virtue of their relationships with the younger characters (and, well, to save the day).

Can The CW Survive?

Last week, MTV’s hit comedy Awkward. returned for its second season and The CW announced its fall premiere dates. Those two completely unrelated events tell two very different stories involving the same TV audience, the story of a success from a cable channel, and what many perceive as the beginning of the end for the smallest “major” broadcast network.

The CW Announces Fall 2012 Premiere Dates

The CW has announced fall premiere dates and has obviously made it a point to break tradition like the other networks. It should be said to its defense that the network had the decency to wait for fall, and to keep things under three weeks, which is no small feat considering what we have seen so far. TV News Tidbits: Wardrobe Malfunction, Browncoats, and More

During a very busy week for the U.S. Supreme Court, the justices upheld a ruling from a lower court on the “Wardrobe Malfunction” case involving CBS. It happened eight years ago), it’s the result of the U.S. government law suit against CBS for showing Janet Jackson’s nipple for 9/16th of a second during Super Bowl 2004. The SCOTUS made CBS almost as happy as proponents of the health care law by ruling that the network didn’t have to pay the $550,000 fine

Falling Skies – Compass

“Compass” was all about danger and hope—danger from within the resistance and hope from the new seat of human power in Charleston, South Carolina. The episode’s emotional peak was, however, undoubtedly dominated by the tragic loss of Jimmy which really owned the end of the hour.

The Legend of Korra – Skeletons in the Closet/Engame

The Legend of Korra’s extended finale mirrored the series’ first season. It was filled with awe-inspiring moments, but was also riddled with so many low-points it’s a wonder that the whole story was produced by the same team. However, the episode was at times very entertaining and managed to bring out the new Avatar in a largely acceptable way.

News Tidbits: ‘Game of Thrones’ at Comic Con and More

San Diego’s Comic Con is three weeks away and more details are starting to emerge on panels and their locations at the convention center. It would seem Game of Thrones has secured the coveted Hall H, the mammoth venue generally reserved for blockbuster movies with a comic-con-friendly audience. This year, the enormous room will also hold panels for Fringe and The Big Bang Theory which (just like Game of Thrones’) were traditionally held in a smaller room.
