The Walking Dead – Say the Word Review

Say the Word tries to say a lot, but doesn’t really deliver on most of its plot points; the major one being Michonne versus the Governor. Ever since Walk with Me these two have been at odds, mainly due to her. In my past reviews, I’ve called Michonne “grouchy” and I’ll have to continue that here. Seeing her sulk disapprovingly as the townspeople celebrate in what looks to be a fun Fourth of July party was annoying to watch. Neither Woodbury nor the Governor have done anything to deserve so much contempt.

Fringe – Through the Looking Glass and What Walter Found There Review

Besides having a title that is a mouthful, Through the Looking Glass and What Walter Found There was distinctly the least gripping episode of the season so far, and it’s not for the lack of trying. It featured Walter wandering off unattended, a pocket universe, Peter using his new tech-induced abilities to great effect, continuity from an earlier season filler-episode (or “mythalone” to make it sound more important), and even a not-too-awkward moment of shared grief. Despite so much happening, the whole failed to work together as expected. A distinctive unsettling feeling seemed to spread throughout the episode, and not in a good way.

Last Resort – Another Fine Navy Day Review

“Another Fine Navy Day” didn’t have the high stakes of the previous episode and even showed some early signs of a “filler” storyline. To make matters worse, the story featured the only character in the series who tends to swing conveniently with the plot and a nonsensical decision to dive while under influence. Fortunately, before it was too late, “Another Fine Navy Day” was rescued by its elegant structure, by the way it seemed to expand the story, and finally, by the best portrayal of a love triangle I have seen in a long time.

The Walking Dead – Killer Within Review

Wow, even though we’re only four episodes into season three, Killer Within had enough dramatic moments, character deaths, and tension to rival the season finale of many shows. This was the show’s first time having to bounce from one set of plotlines and characters to a completely new set. The prison side of things somewhat blew me away, but Woodbury had some problems. The show’s cold opening showing someone opening the gate was nicely done and I thought it would bring a “who done it” element to this episode, but the siren going off clearly made it seem like there was another prisoner loose, whether it be Andrew or a random survivor.

Fringe – An Origin Story Review

“An Origin Story” was one of those titles that are not easy to decipher. It might refer to how the Observers get their abilities, or to how Peter started down a reckless path, or even in a twisted way, how this might be the beginning of something far bigger than we are able to see now. No matter the meaning of its title, the episode provided riveting details on some of the Observers technologies, opening the possibility of another path to freedom than Walter’s plan, but ultimately, at its heart “An Origin Story” was about the Bishop family’s loss and how each of its members coped with it.

Impact of Hurricane Sandy on TV Shows

Sandy has come and gone, but has made sure its short visit would be remembered for a long time. The hurricane (or whatever it evolved into) wreaked havoc on the East Cost, leaving destruction and a deadly trail in its wake. After the initial shock and the first days focused on the overall devastation and the rising death toll, the focus has now shifted to the needs of people who have been hit and the impact on businesses. One business that has seen the impact right away was the entertainment industry.
