Syfy Adapting Horror Series Harrow County for TV

"Innumerable haints."
The small screen continues to diversify its comic book adaptations – and with new properties too. Just last month we heard that Unfollow, which just hit issue #2, would be getting a TV series from ABC, and now we have word that Syfy is developing a series based on Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook's Harrow County (first published in May of this year). [caption id="attachment_77791" align="aligncenter" width="601"]Emmy - Harrow County (Image via Comic Vine.)[/caption] Deadline, who broke the news, provides a little more information on the series than Harrow County publisher Dark Horse does on their page for Vol 1: Countless Haints: “Harrow County centers on Emmy who has always known that the deep, dark woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts, goblins, and the restless dead. On the eve of her 18th birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures and to the land itself in a way she never imagined, for she is the reincarnation of a powerful witch who was put to death on the very day Emmy was born. For this reason, the townsfolk mean to kill her too. In order to survive, Emmy must embrace the unusual powers at her command.” io9 notes that Syfy doesn’t have the best record when it comes to producing compelling TV (Alphas was pretty great, however), but the recent series The Expanse is supposed to be good. Maybe Harrow County represents a concerted effort to produce a full slate of quality series for the channel? Those familiar with the work of Dominion and Twelve Monkeys writer Becky Kirsch can better speak to this, as she is in charge of adapting the series. Image via IGN.
