Superman Returns to CW in Season 2 of Supergirl
"Who dons the red cape? "
Superman is set to appear on
Supergirl this upcoming season.
Supergirl will mark its second season this coming fall and its first as a newly-christened property of the CW, where it’ll join other DC Comics fare as
Arrow,
Flash and
Legends of Tomorrow.
The Man of Steel will visit his cousin Kara Zor-El/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) during the first to episodes of season 2. While casting for Kal-El has yet to be announced, we can probably rule out Brandon Routh, who portrayed Superman on the big screen in 2006’s
Superman Returns and who currently portrays the Atom on
Legends of Tomorrow, and Henry Cavill, the current Big Blue in the DC cinematic universe.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow Supergirl executive producers, Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, EP Andrew Kreisberg expressed his enthusiasm in reintroducing Superman to the small screen.
“Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of ‘Supergirl,'” Kreisberg said. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”
Of course, Superman is no stranger to TV audiences or to the CW.
Smallville, a series featuring a young Clark Kent before he became Superman, ran from 2001-2011 and began its tenure as a CW show in 2006. A young version of the character portrayed by Daniel DiMaggio also appeared in flashbacks in season one of
Supergirl.
According to reports, however, the version of the character appearing in
Supergirl season two will be an adult version of the Last Son of Krypton. Regular viewers of
Supergirl already know that Superman has been heavily alluded to by other characters in the show, so there will be great anticipation for his first official appearance. If you have thoughts on who should be cast as the Man of Tomorrow, let us know in the comment section below!
