So you’re looking for a little entertainment from TV this summer? Well it’s your lucky day. It seems that more and more summer is becoming a time for the cable broadcasters to bring out some of the best series, while the commercial networks try out some experiments. Let’s look at some of those summer shows you might enjoy.
HBO is going to have a treat for us coming Sunday June 13th. It’s the third season of True Blood and I’m sure we won’t be disappointed. Look for things to be really turned upside down with some new characters like Werewolves and some new additional Vampire characters. Sookie will be spending time looking for Bill... of course, Eric is there to help and supply her with some assistance. Also on paid TV, look for continuing episodes of Weeds and Dexter on Showtime.
USA, TNT, and the Syfy Channel all have some series returning for new episodes and some new ones to check out. On USA we’ll see Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westin back as everybody’s favorite burned spy on Burn Notice returning on Thursday June 3rd. Officially Burn Notice has been renewed for two seasons after this. That’s right, after this fourth season we will see a fifth and sixth as well in 2011 and 2012. Also returning Thursday June 3rd on USA is Royal Pains starring Mark Feuerstein as Dr. Hank Lawson. Continuing on USA, for the first part of the summer are In Plain Sight and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
TNT has some exciting series returning this June as well. On Sunday June 20th Leverage starring Academy Award Winner Timothy Hutton returns for its third season. Also returning this summer for second season are Dark Blue starring Dylan McDermott on August 4th and HawthoRNe starring Jada Pinkett Smith as the title character on June 22nd. New promising series include Memphis Beat starring Jason Lee as Dwight Hendricks a quirky Memphis cop who is sort of the keeper of the city. He has a passion for blues and a close relationship with his mother. This premieres Tuesday June 22nd. Also coming this summer is Rizzoli and Isles starring Angie Harmon as Detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as Dr. Maura Isles. This is a series about a detective and a medical examiner together solving crimes? Original!!! This could be good though considering the pairing we are looking at. This premieres Saturday June 12th.
On the Syfy Channel we see the return of Warehouse 13, the breakout hit from last summer. This second season gets started on July 6th. This show was Syfy’s biggest first season hit ever and they are looking for it to continue its great run this summer. Coming Friday July 9th back for its fourth season is Eureka, starring Colin Ferguson as Sheriff Jack Carter. With the failure of Eastwick one would hope that Jaime Ray Newman will return at some time as Carter’s love interest Dr. Tess Fontana. New to Syfy is Haven starting Friday July 9th. This looks a little quirky and could be good as well. It is a one hour drama about a FBI Agent played by Emily Rose with a past that is a little unclear and her experience in a small town in Maine. All of this is from the mind of Steven King. Finishing off their current seasons will be Merlin and Stargate Universe as well.
On the commercial networks we see the return of this seasons episode of Lie To Me on FOX, which has survived to next season as well and The Good Guys on ABC, which is also on the schedule for next season. So unlike many years where summer TV shows were just a bunch of reruns, you can now see that there is a lot going on to keep you at home in front of the TV. This should be a very entertaining summer of new shows.
