‘Star Trek 2’ Films this Fall, Shatner Won’t Cameo

With Super 8 now in theaters, J.J. Abrams can now bring his attention to a project that has movie fans anxious: Star Trek 2. With a script that hasn't been finished, many Trekkies and those converted by the 2009 hit grew concerned about whether the film would be ready by Paramount's schedule release date of June 29, 2012.

Well, in a recent interview with Movieweb, Simon Pegg revealed that he's been told to keep his fall schedule free as the sequel is expected to begin filming then.

As for other nuggets, The Daily Blam! caught up with William Shatner at the Calgary Comic Expo and enquired as to whether he'd been approached about appearing in the sequel. Leonard Nimoy’s cameo in the 2009 Star Trek was a pleasant surprise. Not only was it initially striking and humorous, it also provided an actual way for the film’s story to progress. One could only hope that Shatner, iconic for his portrayal of Captain Kirk in the original television series, might do something similar.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case for now. Shatner, who has been very vocal about getting involved with the Abrams-led reboot, recently revealed that he wouldn’t appear.

"I have become an acquaintance of J.J. as of late but I'm afraid no.. no I will not be in
Star Trek 2 I'm afraid."

Given that a rough draft of the film hasn't been churned out, it wouldn’t be completely surprising if he ends up hopping on board at least for a cameo appearance. Abrams, after all, is a master of secrecy.
