Breaking Bad – Box Cutter

Breaking Bad kicked off their fourth
season with an episode that had just about everything you could
expect from the series. The dark humor, powerful drama, brilliant
acting, and emphasis on presentation were all apparent. The episode
wasn’t without its flaws, though, namely some scenes that dragged on
and broke the tension that was building so well from all the way back
in the third season finale. “Box Cutter” may not have done
everything right, but what it did get right made for amazing
television.

Loose Ends #1 – Review

There are several parts at play in this story that keep it grounded in reality, even if that reality is the underbelly of society. We’re introduced to a cast of characters in this issue as well, which is typically of drug/heist movies, lots of cogs all in motion waiting for the reader to get caught in-between the gears.Loose Ends is a surprisingly good read and an impressive addition to 12 Gauge Comics’ library.

The Strange Case of Mr. Hyde #3 – Review

Where to begin with this issue? If you thought that Cole Haddon was going to save it all for the fourth issue then be ready for the best disappointment of your life. This issue just keeps going and reveals more and more to the point where you don’t know when it’s going to stop. I will say that this issue is so good that the bar is set pretty high for the fourth issue, which means this one could end up being the best of the series.

Green Lantern Affinity – Abin Sur

A lot of comic fans look at Abin Sur and write him off as the dead guy who gave Hal Jordon rather than Guy Gardner his ring, thus changing the Green Lantern Corps forever. But Abin Sur plays such an intricate role in shaping the entire Green Lantern universe; especially in the comics. Abin may have had to die in order to give Jordon his ring, but the events that led to his demise is one of the best stories ever told in the Green Lantern comics.

DC Reboot – DC Gushes About Its 11 New Titles

DC just pulled out its big guns and announced a few of the titles spinning off from Justice League from Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. Notable books include Wonder Woman by 100 Bullets writer Brian Azzarello, Aquaman by Geoff Johns and Mister Terrific by Eric Wallace which I’m personally excited for. Really when you look at the list it’s every superstar they have in their talent pool. The real problem I see occurring, is that with so many superstars how long before they’re replaced on these books? Other than the writers, none of these artists have had a strong track record for sticking with a title for very long. And since this is there A-Team announcement, who will be on the other forty titles? Noticeably missing is Grant Morrison who is confirmed for Superman, Scott Snyder and Jock who are still somewhat confirmed for Batman, but what about Jeff Lemire?

Intrepids #4 – Review

The Intrepids #4, is out this week. This series was a slow start (story wise) but has sold well. This book delivers a retro fusion of indie punk comics and weird strange science fiction. It is a “team book” of bionic individuals that join forces to fight evil mad scientists. They are lead by the enigmatic Dante, a character similar to the early Professor Xavier mix between Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom but with a more mysterious background. So far the book has not shown any sings of being really a “group book” since the previous issues were focused more on the character of miss Crow and Dante’s backstory. The group has not faced any mortal foe, unless you count killer baboons and a purple cyber bear. But the internal conflict has risen in the minds of the team. Thanks in part to the previous issue when they captured a manbot named Jonah and he told Miss Crow, that they are not the first team Dante created.

DC To Publish Only One Comic At The End Of August

I think that this is a clever idea from DC in terms of creativity and bringing something different to comics
In
terms of business, and making money it is probably not the soundest
because selling just one book vs Marvel who is just pumping out as many
books as they can in a month might be bad, but I applaud DC for trying something
new and giving their book the a
ttention it deserves.
