Cate Blanchett and (maybe) Orlando Bloom on board for ‘The Hobbit’

Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy helped launch the careers of several prominent actors. By the time she played Galadriel, Cate Blanchett was an Oscar nominee but hadn’t connected much with the public, and up-and-comer Orlando Bloom was a complete unknown in Hollywood when stepping into the role of Legolas. Well, that all changed when this adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien-penned novels set the box office on fire: Blanchett now has an even balance of blockbuster and character-driven roles, while Bloom was able to snag some huge paydays for the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Now it looks like the two actors will be making a return to Middle-earth in Jackson’s telling of The Hobbit; Deadline Hollywood reports that Blanchett is officially on board to reprise the role of Galadriel, while Bloom is apparently close to a deal.

Prototype 2 May Be Coming

While officially only a rumor at the moment, it appears that a sequel to last years Prototype may be in the works. A new trailer that has surfaced at murderyourmaker.com seems to foreshadow that we may have not seen the last of Alex Mercer. It is highly likely that all questions will be answered at the Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 11th. Until then, we only have a very shorter teaser clip, but the fact that it includes a man in a hooded sweatshirt and creatures similar to those from the first game is a good indication of what may be coming. Either way, here is the clip so you can judge for yourself.

The Warrior’s Way Review

The Warrior’s Way is some sort of amazing disaster, a bizarre hybrid of genre, filming techniques, moods, themes and pace. I would not go quite as far to deem it as “so bad it’s good,” though it certainly carries some sort of campy allure I haven’t seen since last 2009’s Viking/alien invasion mash-up Outlander.  This martial arts Western does, however, play more like an initial idea than a fully realized movie and unfortunately carries more than enough similarities to be lumped in with the video game genre — not the most favourable association.

Splatterhouse (X360) Review

The beat ‘em up genre has been mostly lacking as of late. This is no surprise as it seems the gameplay nearly always boils down to “do tons of light attacks, toss in a few heavy attacks, you win.” Throughout the years, developers have tried to add interesting variety to the genre (combos, leveling up, open worlds, etc.) and occasionally, it all falls into place and is fairly fun. Is Splatterhouse one of those rare occurrences?

Modern Family – Mother Tucker

I believe this is the first time we have seen a member of Cam’s family. His mom comes to visit him and Mitchell and the results are a bit underwhelming. Throughout the show’s run we have heard about Cam’s rural family and how Mitchell usually mocks it. I kind of expected more from this storyline… all we were given is inappropriate touching. Yeah, that sounds interesting but it just comes off as weird. Not weird as in uncomfortable, but weird as in a weak storyline. The bath scene is pretty funny and ultimately their relationship is stronger because of it. It was also interesting to see how supportive and accepting Cam’s mother was of their relationship. We have to wonder about how she took it when they first met and to me that’s the part we should have been shown.
