X-men Arcade (X360) Review

The sounds of quarters dropping, buzzers and lights flashing, sweaty strangers huddled around arcade machines. That was the arcade scene of the early 90’s. For those of you too young to remember, arcades were once a place where complete strangers would have to stand uncomfortably close to each other to play games. Not only that, but we had to pay per play of a game. If you died, it would cost you another quarter and if you didn’t have one another guy would totally steal your spot while you dug in your pockets. This was when X-men Arcade hit the scene and became an instant classic.

Homefront Trailer “Occupation” Released

The year is 2027. The world has suffered a decade-long energy crisis, and economies have crumbled. Reduced to a mere shadow of the super power it once was, the United States became the target of a North Korean takeover. American malls, suburbs and city streets are now battlegrounds as the civilian resistance fights for freedom. Featuring a compelling single player story crafted by John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn), Homefront immerses gamers in an interactive and cinematic FPS experience where they will assume an infantry role or take command of a wide variety of aerial and ground vehicles. In addition to the single-player experience, Homefront will deliver a robust multiplayer experience. In a land stripped of freedom, the brave will fight for their home.”

THQ Launches Bizarre Marketing Campaign For Homefront

In what has to be one of the strangest PR stunts we have seen, THQ has begun to advertise its newest shooter via a number of online gaming websites. What is so strange about that, you ask? In this case, it is the image THQ has chosen to represent their game with. Instead of flashing up an image from the game, THQ has chosen to, well… We think it is better for you to just take a look at the image and draw your own conclusions.

After waiting for a century in comic book time, Ron Marz has finally written the next chapter of Velocity – and boy was I expecting more from him. Super-speeder Carin Taylor (A.K.A. Velocity) is back with her usual quips, fighting against the clock to save her fellow Cyberforce teammates from a deadly virus her clones infected them with.

Dead Space 2 “Sprawl” Trailer

EA has dropped a new trailer for Dead Space 2. This is the kind of trailer that sells games, providing hype and excitement but not really too much of an insight. The trailer is disjointed and makes no connections. There’s alot of necromorphs, some death, guts and blood. So, pretty much standard fare for the series. The free fall section totally reminds me of the free fall sections in Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions.

World of Warcraft Cataclysm Review

I installed Cataclysm with the expectation (Mostly based on previews and the already introduced interface and gameplay changes) that what I was getting into wasn’t exactly going to be an inspired work of art. Instead, it seems that Activision-Blizzard is heading down the path of least resistance, aiming to satisfy the most common denominator while weakening two of the greatest elements that made the vanilla so great: exploration and teamwork. Sure, lip service is paid to lore and the new zones are given a flashier face, but it’s clear that these sentiments are a façade for a hollow processor of souls that strain to escape them and return to the safe zone of their maximum levels and min/maxing number crunching. While Cataclysm adds a tremendous amount of new areas and material, it is all merely derivative and simplified: in other words, instead of stoking the imagination (although the new instances buck the trend), the game mostly personifies boredom.
