NBC, the network that brought us every bad episode of Heroes is back with a new show about superheroes, less than a year after Heroes went off the air. Did NBC learn anything during the last 11 months about making shows with superheroes? No. The Cape is our earliest contender for worst show of 2011.
If you’ve grown tired of fantasy and scifi-themed MMOs, you can now try a new strategy MMO about pirates. Picaroon is the latest game by UK Developer Nicetech who previously brought us the long-running space strategy game Time of Defiance. Their new game is set in a Waterworld-esque future where dry land is rare, and humanity battles to control the remaining islands.
Razer, a company which has previously been known for making gaming peripherals like mice and keyboards, has unveiled their new concept gaming netbook, codenamed: Switchblade. In a video which is positively riddled with hyperbole, Razer CEO Min Liang Tan describes it as “Phenomenal” and a work of “Sheer Genius”, while Razer President Robert Krackoff then goes on to explain that it “Magically” adapts its OLED keyboard to suit whatever game you’re playing.
As exciting as it is to start 2011 with a clean slate of movies, if you know anything about the annual movie calendar, studios dump films with low expectations into January (usually) with hopes of making whatever money they can. So in figuring out what to see at the theaters, there’s always this giant shadow of doubt because the film was released in January. When I was a child, the year 2010 seemed like the distant future. An amazing technologically-advanced utopia where people could play games on mechanical thinking machines connected to each other via a vast electromagnetic web of digital entertainment! Looking back on last year, the real 2010 far exceeded my expectation; my childish dreams of what a video game might be were dwarfed by the realities of projects like Mass Effect 2. As of today, 2010 is part of the past. Henceforth, I’ll look back on that time as a primitive period when Dragon Age 2 wasn’t available, and subhuman savages entertained themselves with primeval entertainment software.
