Golden Globes 2011: Recap and 7 Best Moments

The film awards were largely predictable. The only big “upset” occurred when The Social Network took the award for Motion Picture Drama. While the film is no doubt the front-runner to win the Oscar for Best Picture, it’s not the kind of film that the Globe voters usually prefer. Voters more often than not jump to award period pieces like The King’s Speech but instead opted to follow the critics groups that almost unanimously named it 2010’s best film, though Colin Firth’s performance in The King’s Speech did earn him Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.

Ron Frenz and Pat Olliffe Interviews

I had a chance over the holidays to sit down with acclaimed comics artists Pat Olliffe and Ron Frenz. With Pat, I discussed some of his more popular works such as the Untold Tales of Spider-Man and his being part of the stable of artists for DC’s 52. We also discussed how he came to work with Jim Shooter on the new run of Mighty Samson, a former Gold Key property, now being done by Dark Horse. With Ron, we discussed how him and Tom DeFalco came about creating Spider-Girl and his extremely popular seven year run with Tom DeFalco on Thor. We also discussed his current five issue mini-series bringing back his character from the mid-90s, Thunderstrike, and if he hopes to somehow work this into bringing back the Thor Corps.

Supremacy MMA Features Serious Pulverizing

505 Games has decided to enter itself into the MMA fold, similarly to how they entered the football fold (more like field, ehh?) this past summer with Backbreaker, though this time their game is called Supremacy MMA. Supremacy MMA was announced last E3, though I’ll admit I had no idea what it was until just now. 505 Games has declared Supremacy will launch this summer, and will feature Jens Pulver (5 bucks to anyone who knows who that is), who’s “up and down” backstory will be ever present in the game.

What Makes A Good Superhero?

You would think that the comic industry as a whole would have a check list that they go through when creating a new character. Some would probably say they do and then go onto list things like: Character Design, Weapons, Powers, Location and Origin. And to a lot of creators and readers that’s what it boils down to: What do they look like, what can they do and how they came to be with a lot of emphasis on that last category.

So many comics fall to obscurity due to the industries hang up on the “origin story” that most of the time they don’t even make it past the origin story in the series. Sadly, it seems Hollywood also has this same hang up and has forced it into movie upon movie.

Teaser Time – We Are All Lost – Trailer

Well last week we were treated to a teaser shot that simply stated, “We Are All Lost” and this week so far now we have a trailer… that loses me. Not really, the trailer is easy enough to follow but its still not giving up a lot of details on what “We Are All Lost” is about. Top Cow has again promised more details as the week continues and I’m at least curious to see what their next teaser has to offer. Enjoy the video!

Earp Saints For Sinners # 1 – Review

The economy of America has pretty much fallen to the floor, and echoes similarities to The Great Depression. With law enforcement as corrupt as the criminals they have sworn to protect, there is but one man left to look towards for hope, Wyatt Earp.

This is the backdrop for Radical’s latest series “Saints for Sinners” ( a futuristic re-imagining of the western legend Wyatt Earp) . Created by Matt Cirulnick and David Manpearl. Written by M. Zachary Sherman (Shrapnel Aristeia Rising), color done by Kyushik Shin (worked as art director for Activision and Sony Online Entertainment) and illustrated by Mack Chater, Martin Montiel (The Darkness) and Colin Lorimer, an action comic filled with back-tracking that reads like a movie.
