Amazing Spider-Man #666 – Review

Hey howdy hey, Spider-fans. Spidey has been getting a lot of buzz lately, even for one of the most popular characters in comics. He has a new movie and a new game coming out, ‘Ultimate him’ died, and, last but not least, he’s getting an island named after him! Well, kinda-sorta. You see, while there has been a lot of interest in the death of Ultimate Spidey lately, our good old fashioned Amazing Spidey is still kicking derriere and taking monikers. The inauspiciously numbered Amazing Spider-Man #666, or perhaps auspiciously (depending on your preference) acts as the prelude to the new Marvel event “Spider Island.”

Breaking Bad – Cornered

We are almost halfway through this
season of Breaking Bad, and while it hasn’t been an
adrenaline-filled ride, the series is still putting out highly
entertaining episodes. “Cornered” may not have seen much plot
progression, but the characters’ personal journeys made for
compelling drama.

In recreating the opening from “Bullet
Points” the episode set us up to think we already knew the outcome.
If Mike handled two cartel thugs with a single pistol, than surely
these two guys packing assault rifles won’t have any problem dealing
with a few more hijackers. But that lull was intentionally designed
to impart more impact on what actually happened; which already had
plenty of its own. Seeing the two guards die clawing and scratching
for air as they gasp on exhaust fumes didn’t quite match the level of
brutality in watching Victor meet his end at the hands of Gustavo;
but it wasn’t far behind either. Contrasting it with the three
cartel agents casually sharing the dead driver’s lunch was a black
humor cherry on top.

Deus Ex Earnings: Will Square Enix Make a Comeback?

According to Eurogamer and the Square
Enix earnings reports, Square Enix has had a dreadfully bad year so
far, partly due to the problems with one of their entries in their
trademark “Final Fantasy” franchise, Final Fantasy XIV.

Now, many things could be said about
the “Final Fantasy” franchise at this point, or comments made about
Square Enix’s attempts to enter the MMO market. But what remains at
the end of the day is that Square Enix, even with their AAA titles of
“Kingdom Hearts” and “Final Fantasy,” is doing poorly this year.

Trailer Tracker: Harold & Kumar Christmas, Coriolanus and more

Deck the halls with bags of pot, everyone’s favorite odd couple is back for a third round of medicated antics in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (oh and Neil Patrick Harris may make an appearance). Also, Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler star in the Shakespearian war-drama Coriolanus (also directed by Fiennes) about an exiled war hero who aligns with his enemy to take back the city that wronged him. Puncture finds Captain America himself, Chris Evans, as a drug addict lawyer caught in the middle of a more-complex-than-expected case involving a powerful pharmaceutical firm and the then we look at the teaser for the period horror film The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe, which just broke and seems to offer plenty of potent chills. Capping things off is the indie satire The Smell of Success with Billy Bob Thorton and Ed Helms about a passionate manure salesman who must align with his new uptight boss. Can you smell that? It’s Trailer Tracker — and the scent is wonderful.

hot to look at.
This just got the Player Affinity staff thinking about the Hollywood heroes you would never want to rescue you from danger. Here are just a few of them.

Jane Eyre Review

Fukunaga’s (Sin Nombre) gripping and photorealistic take on Jane Eyre, which arrives on DVD and Blu-ray today, doesn’t exactly provide an amazing revelation for bringing the story back to life, but it does prove that no classic can be so overdone that it becomes untouchable
