Battle High: San Bruno – Review

Sometimes the most difficult task to keep in mind when writing a review is to criticize the thing being reviewed for what it is and not for what it isn’t.  This is especially true when it comes to Indie games, as they’re always low budget and not meant to emulate or compete with blockbuster titles.  For a game like Battle High: San Bruno, comparing it to industry established fighters like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter IV is both pointless and unfair.  Battle High: San Bruno is a competent 2D fighter that has a distinctly classic feel both in terms of its visuals and sounds.

Barbarian #3 – Review

The four issue Barbarian mini-series changes drastically each issue. It started out with a free online first issue that, despite having heart behind it, was one of the worst comics I have ever read. The second issue had some improvements, with the fourth issue following the same motions as the second. The third issue, the one I’ll be going into detail about today, is by far the best issue of the mini-series. The execution and some artwork problems still make the issue an average one, but do make me look forward to more from its creators in the future, because they clearly have talent and the passion to do this. Just no idea how to pace the issue – a problem all issues of Barbarian share.

The Barbarian is a mysterious man without a name who refuses to talk and instead hacks and slashes his way to victory. This issue he and his allies get captured by their alien enemies the Romisians and the origins of the aliens and the Barbarian are revealed.

Alphas – A Short Time in Paradise

With “A Short Time in Paradise,” Alphas
producers tried again to provide a self-contained episode allowing them
to focus on the team. They failed (again), even with the story line
involving the most likeable characters. Rachel’s issue with her family
was at times annoying, the relationship between Nina and Cameron was as
awkward as ever, and Dr. Rosen was dragged into an amateurish sub-plot
about guns. Ironically, the Alpha-of-the-week story line — which was
probably not meant to be — proved more interesting than the others
despite also failing to deliver.
