RTS Weekend: Command and Conquer edition

Command and Conquer 3 is a dead simple strategy game… can you expect any less? It’s dead simple and that’s all I can say. Ok, that’s too simple an analysis… and sorry for being so cold about the game, but from what I’ve been experiencing, the game feels far too dead simple to be considered a strategy game at all. Many of the units feel too weak, some don’t serve much a purpose, some just clutter the screen, and some just take up space. Well, that may be… but the game is so much fun in all cases, what a contradictory statement considering how much I just said in the opening few sentences. But ask yourself, what makes the game so addicting to some? Why does the game keep pulling you back for more after you finished a few hours of straight game after game? Well I’ll tell you a few things that can help convince the point on this matter.

New “Judge Dredd” to be called “Dredd,” will be dark

Peter Travis’ upcoming film based on the comic Judge Dredd will be titled Dredd according to a press release from the international film company IM Global. The press release reads:

“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring ‘DREDD’ to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”

PAM’s Top 10 Movies for Fall 2010

Prepare to have your mind blown. All seven writers on the PAM staff wrote down our top 10 most anticipated movies of the fall season (through the weekend of Nov. 12) and then we combined them into one list. This might sound very easy to you, but you didn’t compile it. Truth was, not only were no two lists the same, but no one film made every single one of our lists. So, to compliment our combined top 10, we’ve each included a Critic’s Pick of a film high on our lists (or that just missed the group cut) and previewed it for you.

The Guide To Make Better Of You In Call of Duty: Rifles

My god… Call of Duty Black Ops is coming out soon and yet no one has yet to prepare you for the one thing that you’ll probably find most frustrating about the game… the multiplayer. Don’t be modest; if you think your pretty f’ing awesome at the game, think again as you are probably either just lucky, or you’re just shitting out the right answers every time you enter a lobby. There are several basics I’m going to run by you in this little guide I decided to do for the upcoming Black Ops game, and I will take you around and about with the basics of how to be better at Call of Duty in general. Follow these simple rules and you actually may live to see to getting that UAV. This first part is a general overview of the game…

Before I even start, I have to run the basics over with you on how to play the game… left sticks to move, right sticks to aim… etc, I’m tired so I’m not going to explain all of that to you. I mean, honestly… I ain’t no tutor, I’m just here to make you better—not to have you learn everything from scratch, that’ll be silly. After you get all that done and out of the way, you must decide what guns you want to use… here are the basic designs you have to keep in mind when you pick your classes and set them up for later.

Gimmicks: 3D

Video games have always been involved with gimmicks. Well before the move, kinect, and the Wii there were things that game companies wanted us to shell out our cash to buy. Case in point the Nintendo Power Glove (which I won’t talk about, but I’ll let the nerd do the talking on that). However these days gimmicks are everywhere in the entertainment industry, and most likely won’t be going away. However I think some need to know more about this stuff, and gimmicks in general. I don’t know where better to start talking about gimmicks that to mention 3D.
